I wanted to put up a link to a fairly well-written complete yet simple genetic primmer that may be helpful for those of you who are doing crosses. It has lots of pictures which I found really helpful as I am a visual learner (especially when learning about colors

) It even has some information about chick down colors!

I actually know the Madam that created that thoughtful and Helpful genetics page, she do alot of reference to Dr. Ron Okimoto, someone dear to me(learn alot from him and his posts) a true scientist, a geneticist.. I hold both of them dear to me..

Quote: You are very fortunate! I did like this reference quite a bit because it uses some genetics nomenclature and then follows it with common names and photos so I think it is a good place to get started in learning genetics. I could not tell who the author was so I did not reference her although I would have liked to do so. Would you be able to give her credit and post her name?

Do you know all the breed combos that can be used to make sexlink or autosex chicks? Or is this still a learning process where we slowly find out new crosses through trial and error.

Depending on what you use(female or Male) the CCL can use successfully to produce both, sexlinks and autosexing. Any CCL Male mated to breeds with Wildtype(like Welsummer, OEG, OEGB, Leghorn, ) or eb brown(like Wyandottes, Silkies, Brahma, some Rocks, like partridge) will produce Autosexing Chick... you could say that this also holds true for birds that carry wheaten(eWh) instead of e+ or eb BUT... its Tricky with them, why? the wheaten allele is not as stable as e+ or eb and while if you hatch 20 e+/eWh chicks some will come out looking like e+, others will also come out looking pure yellow like pure eWh chicks... birds with eWh are: RIR, light sussex, columbina Rocks, New Hampshire, Delawares.. ANY CCL hen mated to Black or Birchen roosters will produce Sexlinks.... ANY CCL Hen mated to Wildtype or eb males will produce Sexlinks that look like Autosexing chicks, But the males will look like silver wildtype instead of gold, making them lighter than females
