Aww! I thought it would be as simple as head dot or no head dot.

Barred Cochins like Barred rocks should be Extended Black(E/E) at the e locus, the Extended Black gene is Dominant over e+ wildtype gene found on CCL, I am not sure how would you get Tan colored birds out of this cross... Extended Black is dominant to all other e alleles and so far this seem to be the order of dominance: Extended Black(E/E)>> Birchen(ER/ER)>>Wildtype(e+/e+)>> Wheaten(eWh)>> eb(brown) Extended Black breeds: Black Jersey Giants, Barred Rocks, black Cochins, Barred Cochins Birchen based Breeds: Black Copper Marans, birchen marans, Lemon Buff Cochins Wildtype Based Breeds: Welsummers, CCL, Light Brown Leghorns, OEG Wheaten Based Breeds: Faverolles, RIR, buff Cochins, Lemon Cuckoo Cochins. Delawares eb Brown and sometimes called Partridge: Partridge Wyandottes, Brahmas, Partridge silkies, how did your E/e+ cross come out looking like wildtype is beyond me

CL roo over GLW hen will produce Autosexing chicks that will look like sexlinks(male with a well defined headspot, femalas lacking such headspot or having a very faint one) GLW male over CL hens will produce Sexlinks that will look Autosexing too(male with a well defined headspot, femalas lacking such headspot )

some CCL females tend to have a faint headspot, but their well defined chipmunk headstripe will be the most give a way, you see males have a large undefined heaspot that blurs their head pattern... that is the same even if the male is heterozyous for the sexlinked barring gene

the CCL SOP(standard of Perfection) calls for females to have a small headspot.... mind you this is the Only Autosexing breed I see this happen as often. I have yet to see a Rhodebar or Welbar female with a headspot ....

the Purpose of barred sex links is the ability to show what gender you have at hatch using sexlinked barring, the males will show a headspot while females dont... well the same can be said about autosexing right?.. so from a pure phenotypically point of view, the CCL x GLW will look both sexlinks and autosexing... while only being Autosexing... and again from a pure phenotypically point of view, the GLW(male) x CCL(female) will look both sexlinks and autosexing... while only sexlinks....

I was very confused by that because I did not see the male down color call for a head spot in the sop i could find but the head spot seems like a strong male marking.
