Cream Legbar Hybrid Thread

Pics
Sticking to subject, I crossed my cl hen to a bielfelder rooster.

3 females and 1 male.

This is the male. Still has the chipmunk pattern on back. Head coloring is more dispursed. Body coloring is a little darker than other 3.

Off subject, i crossed black sex link hens to bielfelder rooster.

I followed link to other thread about sex links. It pretty well says, no combination of black sex link and any breed will get you sex linked chicks. Which wasn't my intention. I knew black sex links didn't breed true. 2 chicks from this crossbreed. 1 is solid black and the other has a white headspot. Did I happen to get lucky? They might turn out to be just the opposite of my thinking. Only time will tell.

Here is a little better picture of the solid black chick.

Some updated pictures from bielefelder roo x cream legbar hen. All the males have same color pattern. They don't look like either parent. All the females look like cream legbar hens. Some have good crests, some have small crests, and some no crest. I will be 1st to admit, not the best pictures. Pictures give you an idea of what is going on.

You can the crest on the closest pullet that is broadside.

1 of roos out of 2nd hatch.

Theroo closest is from 3rd hatch. He hasn't darkened up yet. The 1st hatch looked like that at his age. The roo furthest away is another 1 from 2nd hatch.

The roo from my 1st hatch didn't make it.

Sorry to be the Bearer of Bad news.. but that bielefelder is not a pure bielefelder.. his offsprings are the proof of that.. first because one of his Males shows only one copy of the barring gene(he got it from his CL mother) and the fact that you cross it to a Black sexlinked you got black chicks without the headspot.. that right there means one of the chicks lacked a barring gene(they could only get it from father because the mother had no barring to give)..

My New years Day babies are two weeks old!

They are Cream Legbar X Crele Penedesencas crossed back to Crele Penedesenca:

Wow look at those combs

Three of the combs are pink already!

A fourth one has a large but not pink comb. I expect the three boys with pink in the comb will pop wattles out by next week.

They are very Penedesenca like--They startle each time someone walks by them...But one of them jumped up and perched on my arm. They will be great at getting away from predators.

This is a great thread! It is nice to see everyone's hybrids. I have two that just hatched last week or so. I think the light chick is a hen and the dark chick is a roo, I'm not entirely sure though. The light chick had a white EE for a momma and then black chick had a silver/grey Cochin for a momma.

My silly little Serama ended up being the broody that raised them. Actually, my other Serama thinks she is the momma too! So they get along quite will in the flock with two feisty protectors!
Well, there was a lot of speculation regarding the sex of my two chicks. I thought I would update to let anyone who is interested know that the light chick turned out to be a rooster! I was pretty surprised by that, and the dark chick was indeed a hen. Here is a picture of the "light chick" now.

The "dark chick" did turn out to be barred and looks just like a Cochin, I didn't take her picture.
