Cream Legbar Hybrid Thread

Hello.. for a buff orpington roo, over cream legbar hen would they be sexable at hatch? Or would be too light to see white dot?

You won't know without trying :)

My Barnvelder (roo) over Cream Legbar (hen) produces wild type chipmunk every time, however I do get inconsistent head dotting....I've learned that if there is even a whisp of white on the head, it is likely male. My females are pure chipmunk with no white streaking whatsoever on the head.

You probably will get buff based on both chicks with a light dot on the head of the males, but you might luck out and get some faint wild type streaks as the CL has more than just barring in her genetics.

Hopefully someone can come on here who has done that combination.

So these two are cream legbar rooster over some mixed breed hens ( hens are all from a splash Silverudd blue rooster and the hens are easter egger, sapphire gem and starlight green egger hens) two of the three hatched of this breeding are shown here, third gained Silverudd blue coloring....( and I cannot distinguish it from two others of Silverudd and mix hen breeds)

Hi! I was hoping to get some insight by reading this thread, but struggled to keep looking after page 173.:th

I hatched two blue eggs last Sunday that were from a breeder who told me the eggs were from a pen with: “Crested Cream Legbar hens, White Ameraucana hens, Egger hens, covered by Cream Legbar rooster.” I can’t get back in contact with her for more info, and was hoping to find out if the chicks look more like pure CCL or more mixed. If pure, they are clearly cockerels. If mixed, are the autosexing clues thrown out the window and I have to wait and see how they develop the old fashioned way? Thanks for any insight!!!

Cute! Since the rooster was a CCL and you don’t know what the hen was, I don’t think you can sex them like you would a CCL.

Thanks! I’m thing that too…unless I just happened to get eggs from the ccl hens that were in the pen. Guess I’ll be waiting for some other signs as they get older, and still keep a glimmer of hen hope. 🙏🏻🤠
Keep posting photos as they feather in. That might give us the earliest clue. It will at least be a nice demonstration of their development.

Here’s a couple pics

of the above chicks at three weeks old. Pretty sure they are cockerels. Just starting to see some tufts coming in on their head, but not sure how strong that trait is.

Yeah, I think they are both boys. They should be crested since their father was a pure CL. They should be single factor at least.
