Cream Legbars

I have a pullet (about 10 weeks old) who is very dark (she's one of Paula's girls, super friendly, poor auto sexing at hatch and iffy coloring, so she'll be a layer and for crosses like the rest of this group). She's the one who loves sitting on my shoulder. So far her crest is looking like it'll be really funky- and it's dark, dark grey with a light spot in back. I have dubbed her "Joan Jett" because that's what she looks like - not meeting SOP has never been so cute. I tried to get a good photo, but I really can't quite capture the utter awesomeness of her 'do - it's sort of a three dimensional "IMAX" type experience. She's practicing her poses for her debut album cover...

I am going to agree that my boys have a lot of gold on them. I think they might be half cream half gold daddies but that might take some time to work out.
The dad is in this pic along with some of the potential mom's, although I was doing a group breeding this go round since I am not replacing my boys at this time. I found you get some happy surprises through group breedings. There are 2 cocks in this group. I'd say half to 2/3 of my hens are not cream. Group 1 shows more cream, but smaller crests. Their cocks have straighter combs. Group 2 has fantastic crests but almost no cream.group 1 has better earlobes but that is something that I need to work on.
The cock has a group 1 cream mother. His dad was not cream but had great type and the straightest comb and brightest earlobes. And he was reasonably trustworthy around the kids... I can't put up with mean roosters when I have little ones.
Sagebrush Chickens!
Thanks for your notes. I have a "happy surprises" breeding group this year too, along with some more focused efforts.

Visiting with family friends from England/Wales this week, they were telling me a story about their neighbor with chickens that lay blue eggs. =)
I can only imagine how strikingly different that landscape would be compared to our western chicken pastures.

here are all from the last weekend batch. Which pullet is best? These 2 cockerels are probably both gold. One has a yellow spot and the other a cream spot but they both have the dark collar mentioned before

I'm actually wondering if the dark collars correlate with better barring...let me know if you keep track of them. Also wondering if they turn out cream with extra chestnut on the shoulders...?

I would say two pullets look cream, one gold (split for cream?), and one very heavily melanized.

I sold 3 out of the 4 pullets to someone at work looking for beautiful friendly hens for his grandkids to raise. I really wanted to keep one of those creams but kept the melanistic one instead. She rattles ever so slightly when I pick her up. The lighter cockerel does too.. The smaller cockerel is sprightly tho. I will keep an eye on her. I have several dark hens that are probably the mother. They all have excellent type and large( but not too large) crests. I don't think anyone wants darkish birds though... I haven't brought in a new bird to my place in 2-3 years.
Have 2 more hatches coming up. One tomorrow and one in a week

Love the lanky pullets and cockerels. What an action shot!

Thanks, those were last years teens. t had a person wanted me to send them some pictures of CLB's. I did not feel like searching my photos for some. I Was just going to start a thread and post the pictures I have here on BYC and save them to my files to make them easier to find,,,,then decided this thread can always use some pictures.

I know the chicks are not CLB with the eggs, I just wanted her to see egg color too.

Other than the color, and I personally like that dark color, it is unique, that is going to be a great looking hen.\

The pictures I posted include a hen that was poor autosexing, and I think turned out to be a good looking pullet too. Of course, I sold her to someone as a rooster because of the spot and dark color amongst other things.
