this is my 4 week old just growing her crest. She looks like she is going to be fairly dark

I'm hoping to pick up the pair this weekend. Might actually be able to get a trio as they have 2 pairs right now. Just not wanting two roos. The parents are out of GFF lines which is very exciting.

Boyfriend is going to pick up the trio for me thursday. Now the real question is, which rooster should I take. The lady who has them says the smaller roo in the middle has the better personality, but the bigger roo looks like he's crested and I can't tell from the pics if the little guy is or not.

I found a hen with both melanin and the "Pearl" feathers. One of the old ladies.

WOW -- looks exactly like the one I had. I'm gobsmacked. Had thought that was one-of-a-kind and there you go producing a twin. ;O)

Tough call. You do want a crest, and you do want good disposition. Big size is a good trait....

speaking of dark chickens...the female on the left looks quite melanized, and the female on the right also melanized but crestless? What are your objectives? just blue egg layers, or are you going to breed them. ??

Here are last weekend's pullets. A lot darker this go round. I have another batch in the bator and can always set more

They are dark/darker -- do you know if the eggs came from a hen with the dark feather tips on breast feathers? They are pretty little things too...
