Can we say A-dorable!!! and super neat looking crest. I have one that's got a 'shocker' of a crest also. Love it!
I agree with everything Rinda said prior. The color looks fine but she's still young so I'd refrain from too harsh an assessment at this point. Crest and combs on boys is something I'm still trying to figure out myself.
Just had another hatch and almost even boy to girl ratio - 7 boys and 8 girls but one girl hatched with some of her insides out by the yolk cord so she did not last long. Last hatch I had 1 boy that did not make it and 6 girls I think (gotta check my records) so hoping my pullet-ratio-tide is not turning so early in the season as my first hatch was also majority girls.... I'm rubbing the pullet genie lamp.
I've hatched some Jubilees, some...okay just 2/12 Tolbunts and a few of my own Marans. I also have some eggs from what the gentleman termed Hmong Chickens....we'll see what those look like if they hatch. They got lost in the mail for over a week but when I candled last night they seem to be developing so I'm excited to see it they - go - all - the - way!
I'd love to post pics but I'm going to do that on my facebook page instead where I can feed my happy gene to overfill. I'm really disappointed in the self-righteousness of some folks that read their own biases into the posts of others and am not really feeling like feedings someone else's insecurities or their need to take someone down or read them a personal riot act because they are excited or proud of their flock. I thoroughly enjoy being apprised of someone else's hard work and pride in their flock and it actually makes me excited for my own endeavors. Not sure why folks need to bring their own negativities into public...It's like grumpy people who go shopping on Christmas Eve....They should just stay home.
And on another positive note - I'm expecting a quad of Bielefelders this week from GFF so I'm excited to see what they do
...hear they eat like crazy! Think I should have them toss in some new line girls??? ADDICTED?
At the end of this year I plan on deciding which breeds to keep and which I want to let go. So far the bantam Chocolate Orps and the Black Spitzhaubens are on the chopping block. Still not sure on the Jubilees also and have some Birchens to grow out but one way or another I have some serious decisions to make going ahead.
