Cream Legbars

Th females are supposed to have a salmon colored chest if that's what you are asking. I've not seen one yet with "too much" although I'm sure that is possible.

You are correct. The skull deformation that causes a crest also causes a crooked comb. In females a crooked/flopped comb is perfectly fine. In a male it is not preferred. So you have to be selective in your breeding- adequate crest on the female and a smallish crest on the male so he will have a straighter comb. Seems to be a balancing act from what I hear. We are all fairly new at this here!

Thank you! My rooster has a very fine, very straight comb - though he is young. Not yet a year old. And he's skinny. I can't figure out whether its poor conformation or the fact that he was not "big man" in the flock I purchased him from. I'm giving him a few more months to fill out before I despair- though his barring is far too prominent on his hackles from what I understand.

EDIT TO ADD: Thank you for relieving my fears about the girls.

This girl is a little over 5 weeks. She is one of two purchased a few weeks ago. The little one behind her is only 3 weeks. I've got eggs in the bator that are due to hatch tomorrow. We'll see what comes of those!

Can we say A-dorable!!! and super neat looking crest. I have one that's got a 'shocker' of a crest also. Love it!
I agree with everything Rinda said prior. The color looks fine but she's still young so I'd refrain from too harsh an assessment at this point. Crest and combs on boys is something I'm still trying to figure out myself.

Just had another hatch and almost even boy to girl ratio - 7 boys and 8 girls but one girl hatched with some of her insides out by the yolk cord so she did not last long. Last hatch I had 1 boy that did not make it and 6 girls I think (gotta check my records) so hoping my pullet-ratio-tide is not turning so early in the season as my first hatch was also majority girls.... I'm rubbing the pullet genie lamp.

I've hatched some Jubilees, some...okay just 2/12 Tolbunts and a few of my own Marans. I also have some eggs from what the gentleman termed Hmong Chickens....we'll see what those look like if they hatch. They got lost in the mail for over a week but when I candled last night they seem to be developing so I'm excited to see it they - go - all - the - way!

I'd love to post pics but I'm going to do that on my facebook page instead where I can feed my happy gene to overfill. I'm really disappointed in the self-righteousness of some folks that read their own biases into the posts of others and am not really feeling like feedings someone else's insecurities or their need to take someone down or read them a personal riot act because they are excited or proud of their flock. I thoroughly enjoy being apprised of someone else's hard work and pride in their flock and it actually makes me excited for my own endeavors. Not sure why folks need to bring their own negativities into public...It's like grumpy people who go shopping on Christmas Eve....They should just stay home.

And on another positive note - I'm expecting a quad of Bielefelders this week from GFF so I'm excited to see what they do

...hear they eat like crazy! Think I should have them toss in some new line girls??? ADDICTED?

At the end of this year I plan on deciding which breeds to keep and which I want to let go. So far the bantam Chocolate Orps and the Black Spitzhaubens are on the chopping block. Still not sure on the Jubilees also and have some Birchens to grow out but one way or another I have some serious decisions to make going ahead.

chickendeal-- cute toddlers! Looks like they are going to outgrow their home soon! I can't believe how fast chickies grow!

Walady944-- I can't remember, is that what you ordered or did they send extras? Looks like the boys have different colors although maybe its just shadowing cuz in the first photo the one is pretty shy. Is the hiding one on the right in the first photo the same one that is also in the right corner in the second photo?

Congrats on the batch! You'll have to post pictures as the boys mature but I bet they will be cream!
They sent extras, so hoping a couple are good color and type. And want to keep a roo, so trying to figure out how to keep the neighbors from hearing him. The boys are
different in coloration, GFF said they are from B & C lines, so could be very different.

If anyone complains, you could add some peacocks and then no one will mind the rooster. . . (Kidding!)

At their peak my laying flock (WHICH DOES NOT YET INCLUDE JETT, THE SLACKER HEN) gives me over a dozen eggs a day, so I'll be putting them out in a cooler for sale with a sign that says,

Fresh Eggs
$3 a dozen
If you can hear my roosters from your house,
Your eggs are free

LOL, that's so funny, but actually not a bad idea. It will be a few months til I have anybody crowing or laying.

This little pullet hatched about 6 or 8 weeks ago from an Ameraucana egg, and I've been puzzled by it ever since it started getting "spots" at about 2 weeks old. This week it dawned on me as I stared at it- it has a CREST and BARRING. LOL NO IDEA how it happened but apparently Hugger or his brother did the deed to one of my Ameraucana hens but I have no recollection of having them together at any point! The cockerels had to have been younger than 17 weeks because that's when I shuffled everyone around to put the young CLs into the big kid pen.
