Hi Silverfox--
A lot of people stateside wish there was the same availability of cream legbars over here that there is over there.... Do you think that there is a slightly different appearance in the birds on the opposite sides of the Atlantic. Mostly the hens, somehow they look different to me, but I think it may be just me.
Please keep us updated on your pair...... It will be interesting to see how they grow and develop. ;o)
yes there is a difference in breeds here and in usa
one thing i noticed is the cream legbars have alot of difference
now i think this si down to genetics
originally the Gold legbar was produced using brown leghorn and BPR
that as you can see will always give a light brown layer no matter what you do
the cream legbar was introduced by breeding gold legbars to lavender araucanas in UK
and in USA the Ameraucana was used [possibly black ameraucana] as i have seen black brested legbars in USA
so in essence the araucanan and ameraucana crossing is what changed the aperance
and they where crossed so to get the green eggs
it made its way as a standard due to teh fact that gold legbars where gold and cream legbars due to the lav gene and gree eggs where a silver/cream colour with next to no gold in them
so today the gold and cream legbar are different breed
there is also another breed in UK which is not even a autosexing breed but loooks like the cream legar
and that is called the Cotswold Legbar [Not one i desire personally and not an official standard]
yesterday my poor boy broke his wing so he is vet wrapped at the moment
hoping he gets better soon
