I have question about Rosie. I know that Cream Legbars are supposed to have cream colored hackles and the gold colored hackles are not ideal, but I can't quite decide what color hers are. Any opinions are appreciated.

I'll try that next time! Great idea! They do like treats! My chickens always come to me when I have treats. Put out something good to eat and stand back to photograph them.
What a beautiful egg!
That was very helpful! Thank you! Being brand new, I've already learned a lot from everyone's comments. Thank you!Hi IPickYupick! Its hard to know for sure from a single photo but I will make a gut-judgement. I do see what you are saying with the chick on the right having the back side of the comb folded over when compared to the other chick. To my eye, the comb itself is straight on midline, its just that it is folded over at the back. Based on my experience, if he were going to have a horrible wonky comb its because his crest is large and deflects the back of the comb to one side or the other. You would see a diagonal look to the comb and it would sit off midline at the back. I don't see this in your chick. I do suspect that that chick will have a relatively larger comb than his hatchmate. Here is an example of a large crest and comb that is pushed off midline in a chick. If you draw an imaginary straight line from his beak on back, centered between his eyes, you can see that his comb is deflecting off and almost diagonal to his right (our left). Yes he has a very crazy comb as an adult and large crest (for a Cream Legbar)With this fellow, even though it looks like it will end up off to his right, it ended up being a wickle or S-shaped comb. It is anchored to the right of the crest and then as it grew, deflected off to his left resulting the S shape. Pretty crazy!:

They don't look like typical female chick down pattern for CL. Do you have more pics of the side of their faces(eye liner) and top view? That was very helpful! Thank you! Being brand new, I've already learned a lot from everyone's comments. Thank you!![]()
Just a quickie question... You say "he". These chicks of mine are both hens though right?
lol I have little hands, the eggs are actually kind of small right now. I got one "normal" sized one yesterday but the rest so far have been small. They did just start laying though so I'm sure the size will improveGreat looking egg. Either you have dainty hands or this puppy is ginormous! Did you weigh it?

Agree with chicken pickin @iPickYupik--I was only looking at comb and when I did not see the distinct V I normally get in my chicks, I called them boys. Not all chicks are uniformly downed and it could be that this breeder's girls are not as chipmunk-y as mine. Top shots showing their stripe down the head and back and accompanying chipmunk stripes would be great along with the eyeliner/side head-shot. Some boys can have eyeliner but it is not as dark as the girls and the girls tend to have dark liner on their upper eyelids and the boys don't.
Basket of boys--big color range, you will still get some with chipmunk stripes but they are very blurred into the back stripe (lower right chick in the right photo) and they tend to be more on the grey or creamy tannish hues. I haven't uploaded the individual pics yet, sorry:
Basket of girls--obviously a color range within the brown spectrum. Note the dark eyeliner and the crisp V on top of the heads:
