Cream Legbars

knowing myself(mad Scientist) I would re create them from scratch using nothing more than Production type(battery egg layers) white leghorns(they have silver and sexlinked barring) and wildtype Game type Birds, Bring them to SOP Standards and Bragg about it in these forums, ....... now I dont have the land to do it, maybe in a few years, I know I could do it.

that would help and get your birds accepted to the SOP... just dont go around saying there are Silver Based because some people will be aggravated about it.... not only you will improve color but egg laying aswell... just P.M me when you are ready and I'll layout a breeding plan for you

I have the land, 13 acres plus, but not the brain or the husband who would put up with it.... all these logistics.

Oh how I wish I had that much land. Im working with just under 2 acres. Its not a bad amount but oh what I could do if I had more. I think hubby would kill me lol we would be overrun with chickens.

Have you ladies tried bribing husbands with their own hobbies? If my boyfriend put up a fight to something I wanted to do, I would find a way to add a model railway to the house/garden. He'd oblige like a shot.

Although in theory it is fun to talk about all of the outcrossing and genetics, I would caution against introducing Silver to speed along the SOP. You would be opening a can of worms on many fronts. Honestly, and this will sound harsh, if I discovered that a breeder had done this sort of thing I would think 2 things of them 1) they are lazy 2) they are dishonest unless they fully disclosed what they are doing in which case I would not want to buy any stock from them (or breeders who have) for fear of contaminating my breeding program.

I love hearing when people do experimentation to learn and develop their take on things, but above all it is important to fully be open about what you do and disclose to others what you are doing. So for instance I have a huge amount of respect for Flyingmonkeypoop because he has a vision and is up front about his projects. You can learn so much. But the breeder must be up front about what they are up to.

Its even more important now for the Cream Legbars because we are still establishing the SOP and gaining acceptance. It is our job to inform the judges what the Cream Legbar will look like and what the breed is about. If we start introducing mis-represented stock at the beginning I am afraid it will damage the whole process of gaining acceptance and also taint the judge's perceptions of what a Cream Legbar is all about.

Lol bribing would work but luckily DH lets me bring in whatever I want but he gets that look on his face and I know he doesn't approve. He doesn't enjoy all the animals the same way I do and seldom does the chores for it. So I figure as long as I can handle daily chores on my own he doesn't really get a say lol. Hes pretty tolerant of it cause it makes me happy but he definitely stopped encouraging it.
