One of my original GFF 2012 hens (not crested.) She finished her first molt to this. Looks a bit short necked in this picture, but she's not. I do like her tail though.

Yes green band hen had the injured eye. It is still cloudy. She acts more timid now. Still comes for treats but she's the first one in the coop every night, guess since she can't see as well anymore. Really meant to quarantine her after the move and treat her eye some more but then I had some babies get sick so the pet carrier (i.e. quarantine pen) has been occupied. Still may try that to see if we can heal it up some more. The carrier should be empty tomorrow night!

She's beautiful! Yes very lovely tail, hard to tell for sure from this angle but it looks very open in addition to the nice angle. She's got a very nice front underline, too, swoops all the way down to her legs.

My non-crested hen from the original A Line GFF flock had a nice tail too. I noticed two division on the first wave of offspring from the A line.

One group that have great tails but no crests.

One group that has crests, but squirrel tails.


I lost my non-crested hen. I wish I had her back to help work on tails.

Some pictures from today. As Hugger has matured he has really filled in! He is such a sweetheart to his ladies. If you can spot orange band girl in the crowd, she is the spitting image of her mother, Green Band Girl, but with a fabulous crest!

Gonna hatch lots of her babies this year for myself!








You can't tell but orange band girl is the one in the dead center. You can see a hint of her great salmon coloring from her chest and her fabulous crest! And her mom's lovely tail angle. She also has the yellowest legs of all my pullets. I got really lucky with her.


For those who haven't seen the more subtle colored golds, the left hen is cream, the right hen is gold. She is so faintly gold you can't quite tell until you see her side by side with a cream. It's more noticeable high up on her neck near her face.


And just for fun- a Sapphire (UK name for Leghorn X Cream Legbar). I call them my super blue egg layers- let's see if they live up to that name! I have two of them. They are supposedly sold but the lady never came to pick them up... so I may just keep them for a while to see how they lay! They are super great at hatching and very hardy as chicks.



Meant to get pictures of my super light baby boy growing out but I forgot. Just as well. As soon as I share pictures of a hopeful boy I lose him....

I make that cross all the time. They are VERY hearty chicks. I usually get 100% development and hatch! Sapphire huh....I call them SBEL too.

Really nice barring - She is a pretty hen. Also for my taste, although it is allowed, I don't like floppy combs, even on females...and hers looks good. Now all you need in your future chicks is a little cresting activity and you're home free!

They are laying again. Not sure who as the girls are all together in one big coop. Spring seems so far away.

Beautiful eggs!! I cannot wait for spring either.
