Just measured one -- a smallish to medium - and she was standing about 16" tall -- not stretched. HTH

You are so good, going out to measure a chicken. I would likely not catch a Legbar hen, they like me and come to me, even chase me for treats but they take caution not to get to close. They are not my under foot chickens.

Mine did not come very socialized, I feel pretty darn good when they come right up to me for snacks. Only time I can catch them is in the nesting box.

Wow - that was fast! Going out to measure a chicken for me - you're so awesome! Yes, that helps a lot. The dripper rig is about 12-13" high and the side of the run where it will be hung is 30", leaving 17-18" so that's within the realm of the possible, at least.

Well, I had a clear schedule today at work, but lots of work to do. I went in to feed them in their brooder early this AM, and they surprised me - they all flew out to my arms and then into the crate I carry them out in (or just directly to the crate). They were all like "we're ready to go outside now!" So, rather than saying that wasn't in the plan, I just let them out in a tractor set up for several hours while I worked on my home computer inside (the "door" closure of the tractor is a little bit jerryrigged right now until I fix it, so I wanted to check on them occasionally rather than just leaving them there and going to work). But every time I went out to check on them, they would come over to the side and look at me as if to say "why aren't you in here keeping us company, Mommy?" and when I do keep them company, they tend to stay within a foot or two of me. I think they may be a little too attached to me at this point... (I have some weaning to do!)

My adult girl is as underfoot as all of mine. They all let me squat down and pet them scratch backs. They tolerate being picked up and held quite well. Most every one squats for me whenever I reach for them. If I bring a chair into the run the buff orps are in the lap in no time. The 14 week old boys are a bit more flighty when I putting them out to play. The girl is a pretending she is a pita pinta. (Some of the friendliest/docile chickens I have) I have become convinced that if I hand raise chicks I should always raise them with some pita pintas their temperment seems to rub off on the rest to a degree.

Actually she was standing right beside a wire, so I went to the exact spot and tape measured where her head was Yes, she had strolled away....

My Cream Legbar hatching eggs arrived yesterday and this morning they went to a guy who will incubate them for me! So very excited! e

I'm in the middle of a CLB hatch and one of the chicks appears to be a male and is totally yellow. He has a lighter splotch on his head which I assume is a male. I'll post pictures later. Anyone ever see this before?
