Crele Bantam Cochin Project

Yes, I believe you are correct...now if we could tell the difference in Male-Females in the dark chicks.
Yes, I believe your are correct to assume "chipmunk stripes" indicate pattern.

The true Crele color is Barred + Black Breasted Red there's no way around it, Barring over Partridge, wheaten or Gold Birchens can be beautiful birds, but in no way are any of them "Crele". They are Barred Partridge, Barred Wheaten and Barred Birchen. It would be like calling a Columbian Rock a White Rock

True Crele chicks should always hatch in a slightly "faded" red duckwing chimpunk chick down.
In order to get good Crele you will have to cross your best crele colored birds back to the BB Red then you will get good dark males that are called "intermediate".

Catlin (1991) describes how he made his own strain of Creles by crossing two Crele males with two unrelated Black Breasted Red females. From the mating all the sons were dark
(intermediate) Creles and all the daughters pure Creles. By crossing first generation males and females he extracted some pure Crele males to go with the pure Crele females already obtained.
Wolf (1991):

SIRE.....................DAM..................SONS.............................................DAUGHTERS
Crele....................Crele............100% Crele.......................................100% Crele
Crele....................B.B. Red......100% Intermediate...........................100% Crele
Intermediate.......Crele...........50% Crele & 50% Intermediate.........50% Crele & 50% B.B. Red
Intermediate.......B.B. Red......50% Intermediate & 50% B.B. Red....50% Crele & 50% B.B. Red
B.B. Red..............Crele............100% Intermediate...........................100% B.B. Red

Intermediate
In genetic term an "intermediate" male is heterozygous for barring (Bb). Females carry but one sex chromosome so a B- female would be called hemizygous; a BB (Black Breasted) male would be homozygous for barring.

I realize these are not 'TRUE Crele cochins" but I have to work with what I have and since BBR cochin are not available... In my first post I stated mine were Barred Partridge and breeding towards Crele 'Look-A-Likes'.

Here is a pic of some Crele Rosecombs chicks to give an idea of 'True Crele' chicks.

So...BBR Old English Bantam Hen x Barred Cochin Roo, then offspring hens back to Barred cochin Dad? Then select best offspring roo to breed back to BBR? Select best type and breed together at that point???

Would it not take "forever" to get the cochin type back if you outcross to OEBG??? I think I'll just stick to a "look alike". I'm too old to work on a "forever" project

It wouldn't take FOREVER. I'm pretty sure this is how the Self-Blue (Lavender) Cochins were started. There's a current thread on them here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=222829&p=4

Now
I don't know if Cochinman2005 started as far back as he himself actually crossing an OEGB and cochin, but he is on F3 and planning to breed the F4's early next year and they are looking AWESOME!

So yes, it would take some time, but not FOREVER.

It would not take fovever, but a lot longer than I want to do it, but PLEASE someone go for it and keep us updated on the progress.
I will settle for the look-a-like as well

Ia m getting to old too!

Here is a pic of the brother to my frizzled barred partridge roo(post in previous post). He doesn't have as much color on him as his brother but leaking a bit of red. I may still get a few offspring from him too.
