Hi all,

Just back from Croatia's dense forests where I recently spent my holiday. Chicken love never goes on holiday though, does it?

While exploring local grocery stores, I discovered that store brand eggs are fertile! I had never seen this before in my life. Naturally, this piqued my curiosity and I thought, why not try to hatch them?

I also happened upon an elderly local woman, a guardian of her own flock of charming and peculiar chickens. I'm currently researching lost heirloom breeds for a book project and was intrigued by her brood. After a lively Google-translate powered discussion, she kindly offered me a batch of eggs from her chickens.

So now, I'm back from holiday with a unique set of eggs - some from the grocery store, and others from this remarkable woman's heritage breed chickens. I've already set them in in the incubator and will keep you posted on what will hatch.

I've attached some photos of the wonderful chickens I met during my trip.
