Happy Hatching Karen.

My neighbor just called me to tell me that 1 of the guinea eggs just hatched! I ran over there to see it.... its so little and cute! Theres 11 more in the bator... I'll go see how many more hatched out in the morning

Thanks, Jenn this is our 1st broody hen.

we have 36? eggs in 1 bator and 22? in a 2nd bator (i think I need to count them again) Now and 7 3 week chicks and 7 week old chicks in brooder boxes OMG a chick over run

Boy Oh Boy am I glad we just got 5 pens on legs, they are 3 w x 4 H x 8 L not counting the leg height.

I think they will be full sooner than I thought.

We have had a lot around here too and I don't know how I would deal with it if I was Pregnant too

Proubly not very well for the others around me

So good thing I am beyond that one

Jenn I had to go recount my eggs in the bator 35 in the 1st and 20 in the 2nd. I went out to mark the 16 eggs DH and I put in the new nest and there were 18

someone snuk in a couple of new ones. there was no hen sitting on them though, so I will wait a few days. I will take all the newer ones out and leave the 18 just to see what happens. I only need 6 for the egg swap, so we will see.

so lets see 20 chickens, 14 chicks, 55 eggs in bators and 18 eggs in a nest

that totals 107

and that doesn't even include the 10 ducks

I think we had better slow down from these after our current hatching.

Hey all, just got home a lil while ago. Been real busy like everyone seems to be this time of year.

I am trying something (new to me) and am wondering if anyone else has ever done it and have any advice? I decided to put my 2 really broody hens to use. Since I don't have a rooster to make fertile eggs I did the next best thing and bought 3 lil chicks from the farm store and slipped them under my hens. One hen didn't want anything to do with them but the other one lets them stay under her and is real carefull not so squash them and also tucks them under her like she has accepted them but they are up high in their laying boxes and the chicks can't get to water or food. I got them yesterday and took them down to feed and water them today but put them back a few hours later for the night. Tomorrow I am going to move hen and chicks into a cage where I can leave food and water but leave the door open where the hen can get out if she wanted to.
I didn't know how successful this would be so need advice.

Great to hear from you again Gwenm son't stay gone so long!!! Maw, hope you get that computer back soon, sounds like things are looking up in Wister, hope so anyway!!! Belated Happy Birthday Karan!! And a great big hug to all of you for wishing me a Happy Birthday! I am so sorry, I didn't see this yesterday!!
I have been busy waiting for eggs to hatch, they are doing so now! Plus, my new six turkey poults are keeping me entertained. I wish I had found turkeys sooner! So much fun! They push each other over trying to get into my hands unlike the chicks who scream and run away.

I have truly fallen in love with turkeys.

In case anyone was wondering, probably no one but Okie, lol! I have about 2 feet worth of dc stitches and a border to be finally finished with that purple afghan!! I have 18 of the ruffled blocks in the center and solid on either side to make it double bed over the side width but not length. It will cover half her bed and hang off the sides. I think its pretty, hope my daughter's colelge roomate will too..I cant take a picture until I go buy another memory card and cable..dang puppy!!! Probably try to do that next week at Staples or Circuit City. I am pretty tired of working on it though, those ruffles are slow goin!! Sure would be a pretty babyghan on a smaller scale and softer yarn. Maybe we can try something like that forone of our donated ones. SPeaking of which, I need to do some more squares for that too!
