Not much. You just make a circle. Increase till its the size of your head then single crochet till you have the length you want. I think thats it. It been while since a made one.

Here's a tip from an almost complete beginner...YES YOU CAN! A lady named Teresa on the Art of Crochet will take you step by step,( on youtube) if you don't get it...rewind!
smile.png
And then if you still don't get it...try what you know...then go with it, or take out...I made baby booties last night!
It's amazing how relaxing, and enjoyable crocheting is. I really love it!
big_smile.png

Hope that helps, if you have any questions, I will try, with my limited knowledge to help...or someone with more experience....like Darlene or other talented women will!

Ok, I'll have to give it a try! Thanks!

Now hubby wants a scarf too... DD has claimed this one. I was actually making this for myself... oh well.

I sure like that hat also. I downloaded the pattern this evening. I'm trying to get a headstart on next Christmas and birthdays. My DH and I have 31 grand children between us and he has one greatgrand with another on the way. I have two grandchildren married but no prospects of little ones yet. Give them time! I have found some very nice patterns on line so I'm getting some together for future use. Will be glad to answer questions if I can but with all these instructions on line they can't be beat. I had to use a book to learn how to crochet as my mother never learned. Now knitting was something else and she taught me that. I taught myself to sew after taking a home ec class in high school that inspired me to do more than make an apron.

Hi everyone!!!! DD was home w/ snow days last week hogging the computer through the weekend, so I had some reading to catch up on here. She's back at school today.

popcornpuppy to the crochet chat site. I joined a long time ago, but just recently had time to post again, so it's like I'm new again. I love this site. My grandma taught me how to crochet when I was little, but not how to read the patterns, so I am constantly learning and so many things I want to accomplish.

Parson's Wife I love

the hats you crocheted. They look awesome and so do your cutie models too. Way to go.

Oh yea, thanks for the link. I want to give it a try after I master the beanie cap first.

Last week I decided to hunt down all my yarn stashed all over the house and re-organize it. Whew, found I need a new bigger plastic craft container...mine is over flowing and not all of it will fit. I have been lazy about storing it and know the yarn will get hairy in my house if I don't put them in zippy bags. 3 inside kitties, 2 dogs and an occasional chicken in the house it's bound to happen. Cool thing was I found my missing G hook

stashed w/ my cotton thread bag w/ forgotten dishcloth projects.

Sad new is that I have no idea where my tiny steel one is that use to belong to my grandma.

Hopefully I've tucked somewhere so safe that I can't even find.

I completed my very first scarf ever w/ multi colored rasta looking material. I guess it's cool, b/c teenage DD wanted to steal it for herself, but it's to long for her. More man length, so I'm going to send it to my college aged nephew. I didn't follow a pattern. I just started w/ cs and went length wise until I thought it was long enough and then alternated 2 rows of sc w/ 2 rows of dc and then edged w/ either ss or sc (can't remember now) I'll post pic later.

baustin I hear ya about getting started on gifts for next yr, but boy you have a lot more people to make for than me. After I accomplish a few things I hope to do the same things.

A few nights ago I attempted to follow a pattern for unisex beanie cap and went wrong somewhere. It started looking like a beret for a giant, so I abdoned the pattern to try to save it. I think it looks like a bed cap for Little Red Riding Hood's Grandma.

My daughter must have felt sorry for all my hard work and said she wants it. I was going to unravel and start over. Frustrated w/ that, so started DD a rasta scarf w/ a little diff stitches that the first one I made.

Insiderant keep trying. Don't give up. www.Crochetcabana.com also has a printable helpful hints. I like their granny square instructions where she tells ya to take a break and eat a hershey bar or eat a bowl of ice cream.

Hey there! I'm in Illinois also. That is so sweet crocheting an afghan for your hubby. I want to do the same thing. Mine will see me working on projects and always ask who it's for. I think he feels left out. I think you have a great idea of practicing the stitches on scarves and selling them or you could also give some as gifts too.

That happened to me with my 1st couple beanies... come to find out I was added on to the rounds every round., after round 5 I shouldnt have been adding on....

I started another ripple afghan yesterday... its looking much better than my 1st one I started awhile back (the ends grew and I abandoned it) I'll undo it one day and start over with the yarn. One the one I started yesterday I'm using the bright colors again...

Wow!!! That's a lot of blankets. What a kind thing to do. You must be one fast crocheting machine. Beautiful work too. Love it all, esp the baby blanket. Thanks for sharing the pics.

I cannot take credit for all of them. I work at a senior center and when we have 15-20 ready, we just give them a call. They are used at hospitals, ERs, Police Stations, etc. Our local chapter (when I say local, I mean 3 counties away) uses over 200 blankets a month.

Thanks to all...

Oh, I almost forgot

the hats are for our local schools. They are given to children who are in need of hats and gloves.

They are also greatly appreciated at the Oncology offices and Chemo centers.
