Crochet "Chat"

Thank you baustin & Jen!!!

No Jen I bought the goat's milk soap. I wish I had made it. I saw the yummy greek looking yogurt on your blog you made out of you goat's milk. Do you make soap? I want to make soap so bad. I think I'll start w/ simple melt and pour first and work from there.

Alethea & Sunny~ I think it's a true art when you can free form your crocheted projects. I struggle w/ both.

As a matter of fact how do you guys free form your scarves? I think I want to make some to match the hats & wrist warmers.

Smitty,

Your hats and wrist warmers are beautiful.

My scarves are very simple. I hope I can describe them (I have difficulty with written instructions and now I'm going to try to write some. Good luck.)

Use a size H hook. Chain 17 or 19. You can make it as wide or narrow as you want, but you need to start with an odd number.

1st Row: Beginning with the second chain, single crochet the row. End with a chain and turn.

Second row: Single crochet, then double crochet, alternating for whole row. Should end on a single crochet. End with a chain and turn.

That's it, alternate 1st and 2nd rows for as long as you want the scarf.

The fun thing is that, because each double crochet is surrounded by single crochets, a sort of square is formed and you can see vertical and horizontal lines, depending on how you hold it to the light.

Back to my Milky Way afghan. It won't be astronomically correct, but could be pretty.

bok. Alethea

OMG, I never do the same thing twice! Doc says I'm borderline ADHD and I think this is why I get bored so easily. I do use the shell stitch a lot but also love the popcorn (puff/cluster) stitches or sometimes I will use dcs alternating with scs to create a pattern effect with open "windows". Keep them in a continuous line or do a whole scarf with every other stitch skipped to create a "net" look. Oh geez I wish I had taken pics of all these projects I gifted over the years. I tried to write down a pattern I did on my own once for my DDs who insisted I write it down so they could copy it and it gave me new respect for the folks that write patterns! It really is a lot harder than it seems!

Ok this just tells me that I should start sharing pics more often. I appreciate the pics you all share so much and get great ideas from them, I need to start doing the same thing.

Often a project is an impromptu item I decide to make at the last minute and barely finish in time for whatever event or visit I'm making it for, so there just doesn't seem like there's time! No that's an excuse. I have a decent camera phone so I just need to remember to do it.

I havent even really looked into it yet. The goat yogurt is good stuff, I've been eating it almost every morning since I started making it, I add a scoop or 2 of the different jams or toppings I can & add sliced almonds to my own lil bowl.

I make alot of different scarfs... all simple. Using the sc, or dc, or tc. I'm workin on one right now with simply soft yarn, a N hook, dc... I think I chained 21 then went from there. I'll be postin a pic of it on my fan page when I'm done. I have to mail it out Wed. morning.

When you're ready to start making cold process milk soap, check out the soap help thread here on BYC and check out my soapmaking page .

Jen, have you tried cheese yet?? I have some easy recipes (and supplier links) on my cheese making page.

Now that's one of my huge things on my "I want to..." list. I want to learn how to make cheese. I got a bunch of info on it but probably won't have any spare time til after the first of the year. They said to start with yogurt which I've done (too easy) next I downloaded a recipe for cream cheese. That looks super easy too. Just need to hang a hook from the cabinets above my sink for that one. It's the others I think I'll wait on. Our schedule is already looking packed through the holidays. I will definitely save that link too, even though I know I'm not Jen.

Thanks!

Thank you Alethea!!!! I love the wrist warmers. My DD wants some and I want to make some for myself as well. They are so easy. Thanks for the scarf stitches idea. I can't wait to have time to get back to my crocheting gifts for B-day's & X-mas. Oh I can't wait to see your Milky Way afghan. Sounds so cool!

Thanks Sunny & Jen for the scarf stitches ideas. I really love this site!!!!

Sunny~ I hope your hubby is feeling better.

Jen I want to make simple soap as well. Maybe add a little dried herbs from the garden. A friend gave me a "How to" book for my B-day last year, but I haven't had time to really look into it. Oh yea, what kind of milk goats do you have?

Cyndi I am going to bookmark those sites as well. Thank you so much for sharing. I'll be contacting you, I'm sure for help when I'm ready to plunge into it.

Now all this talk of goat's milk, yogurt & cheese is making me hungry. I guess I'll go eat lunch early.
