Crochet "Chat"

I read somewhere a bout doilies being blocked but i don't know what it is or how to do it. Could you explain it to me because i would be thrilled if it came out looking like it is suppose to.
When it is finished you wet it w/ water (some use liquid starch also) lay it out on a pinable surface then pin it in the way you want it to dry in the correct shape, after it dries it will maintain it's shape.

Maybe some "leafy green" around to make it a complete circle??

I thought about what to do with it and maybe some butterflies in the empty places first then some green for a border. It needs something. Hopefully the butterflies will be easy. It's been a few years since I have made any doilies. I am very rusty. I can see I need to go back and do some crochet practice with my tiny hooks and southmaid thread maybe even some quilting thread. That might be challenging. I took a better picture this morning. It really shows the true color of the centers. and its lighter with natural daylight. I am almost thinking a ruffle edge but it might take away from the flowers though. sighs.....maybe I should stick to quilts.

Well I think its GORGEOUS! Totally makes me wanna try! I've NEVER used any crochet thread, or anything other than worsted weight actually. Lol Ive just taught myself to crochet like a year ago or so. Dying to make something with a tiny hook!!

You should try it. There's thousands of patterns on pinterest.com. Just type in free doily pattern Or any kind of crochet. I think that is the best site online for patterns. A lot of great talent there. ravelry and craftsy are also a good source for patterns and stuff. My personal favorite is this link on pinterest:

Some of that stuff is odd and some of it is very nice. I am not real happy when they show how to put candles in logs. I mean what are they thinking? Wood fire kids. No No. That is always a bad idea. It only takes a spark with dry wood. I know.. we heat our home with wood only in the winter. Ok I am rambling now and will stop. LOL. I guess people should use common sense when doing some of these projects. Really give the thread a try. I have not crochet with yarn because my tension is way too tight. I learned to crochet with thread. I would love to make an afghan but I know it would come out like crap.

Same here I learned to crochet w/ thread, but took the plunge to yarn many years ago and really the transition is easier then you think. Now I can go back and forth w/o any trouble yarn or thread.

I really don't like the small hooks. Hard on my hands, so probably couldn't use the thread. And I'm so impatient that a project I'd want to make would take too long with the thread, I'd think.

Been making scarves, cowls, shawls, etc. Here are a few of them. I think I have about 40 items finished.

Your work is beautiful. Did you design them? I just love this one. It looks complicated. I wish I could work with yarn. No luck here with it.

Thank you so much. Means a lot since I'm fairly new to crochet. No, these are really so easy, especially that 3" wide one. You'd be surprised how easy they are. The silver fuzzy one is the first time I worked with yarn with alpaca in it. It's the Alpaca Dance yarn by Premier, which is 25% alpaca, 75% acrylic. It's light as a feather and lots of yardage on a skein. It's really the exact same pattern as this shawl I made, which I realized once I started making it:

I really want to start learning to make stuff with yarn. Your shawls look soft and lacy. They are very pretty. Have you tried a afghan? You have nice even sts. The afghan I tried looked like something from a freak show. It was just terrible. Tight and puckered. LOL. Even my husband made a joke of it. I have not tried since. I have a great respect for anyone who can crochet with it. Sighs...maybe someday I will try again. I don't buy expensive yarn cause I am so bad at it. I think tatting is my next venture.
