Crochet "Chat"

Well I am starting another design. It's going better than the daisy doily. Now to come up with the center. I was thinking of making like 8 of the motifs around a plain center. Not sure yet though. Here's what I have so far.

I sell it on ebay and sometimes just trade for stuff I want. Fertile eggs, soap, stuff that I find of interest. Mostly I just give to my friends for Christmas.

I usually use mine as gifts too. I've tried selling once or twice but have never had much success. People just don't want to pay enough even for the supplies let alone the time and skill involved.

Was kinda surprised you sell hand crafted on Ebay instead of Etsy.

I am not a big fan of etsy. Too much competition and it's mostly a pattern selling site from what I can tell. I have seen mostly vintage pattern there. Maybe someday I will give it try when ebay doesn't work for me. Your right about selling stuff. It's hard. I probably will not get what I am asking but I wont take less either so if my items do not sell I will just give them as gifts. It's just a hobby. I do quilting a small business. It's just sad nobody wants to spend their money and get a real work of art. It is real hard to sell unless it's unique or you ask little to nothing for it. What did you sell on ebay? My quilts do much better than the doilies. I am so sick of making quilts I had to take a break. I don't like quilting right now. When a hobby becomes a business it ruins it.

My husband has put crapola on Ebay, like garage sale finds books and the like. He has put a couple of things for me years ago, but they never sold, baby afghans mostly. I've tried once or twice selling locally through crafting consignment in nicer type stores, but haven't ever had success there either, which is actually probably for the best anyway, I don't really want to make it a business, I like doing it when I want and not doing it when I don't. You have success at selling quilts!!!! Wow, I am not good enough at quilts to even attempt that!!!! I don't see how anyone would be willing to pay for that time and skill.

My current obsession is fusing quilted and crocheted blankets into one, quilted on one side and crocheted on the other. I haven't seen anything like what I'm making online so think I may have invented it. lol

My friend, Ladyhawk (Cetawin on BYC) and myself started up Blue Roo Creations to sell some of ours before we're buried in it, but it's more than crocheted items. There are some of my quilted items, her DH's forged items, her soaps and beadwork, tanned hides and our blog, plus a farm section for selling our hatching eggs, chicks and adult birds.

Quote: Amen to that! I know what you mean about Etsy, too. I saw so many pattern sales on there. And if they want a Walmart quilt, well, you do get what you pay for in that regard. It won't hold up for years and years and the batting in them is crap. I realize some cannot pay what our quilts are worth, but then again, I cannot afford to make them and sell them for Wally World prices, either. I'd rather make them for someone who really appreciates them for just cost of materials or just because I want to than for someone to tell me I'm charging too much. I never charge too much for what they're getting, period.

I'd love it if you ladies (and gents) would pop over to Blue Roo, look around and sign the guestbook.
