Crochet "Chat"

Is that simply 3tr crochet, all in the same st, first row. Then picking each tr c up the 2nd row? Are we looking at it sideways?

Here's what I've been doing. Just finishing the final 4 rounds now.

That is what I was thinking, the photo is sideways. 3 treble sts all done in the same stitch.

That is lovely HollyDuckFarmer!

No, I believe that is the right way, each row was a new color, thus I determined the pattern to go the way I am holding it... Am I missing something?

Just got this heirloom afghan from my aunt that my deceased German grandmother crocheted. A real treasure. She was very talented! But, I can't figure out these stitches!!!!!! Can anyone help decipher this pattern?

I don't know how to multi quote so this is part of the "sideways" discussion. When I first looked I thought like everyone else who commented that it was being held sideways and was a variation of the "V" stitch done in treble but w/ 3 posts instead of the traditional 2, with lots of color changes. But when I looked closer and enlarged the pic, I think it was done in rows of color like shown. If you look at the dark row just under the red row (the clearest visibly) you can see what looks like a row of chains w/ a repeating kinda "V" stitch w/ what looks like a double followed by chains then the slantways treble. Then the red row looks like it is completely yarned over the dark chains before repeating the chain/slanways "V" again. That is what it's looking like to me, but I can't wrap my mind around how it was actually done.

I'm having a hard time enlarging the photo, but looking at the red and yellows, i can now see those do indeed look like color changes, not like variegated like id originally thought! is the pattern textured on two sides (top and bottom)? Can you please show a pic of one of the corners? That is a very cool pattern-- reminds me of the tracks my ducks make in the snow! :) Love it!

can you take a few more pictures maybe against a white piece of paper? This is driving me mad! What's killing me is the long strand in the stitch.
