Crochet "Chat"

First round is 11 dc + the "ch 3" that is to be the first dc so 12 total.

rd 2 is 2 dc in each of the 12 stitches for 24 total, but the first one will be the 3ch to be the first dc

rd 3 is ch 3 (for first dc) then 2 dc in next stitch, then 1 dc in next stitch then 2 dc in next stitch all the way around (so 1/2 of the 24 stitches will have 2 dc and 1/2 will have 1 dc for 36 stitches.)

You always start each row w/ a chain 3 that doubles as the first dc
i knew that you are supposed to count the chain 3 as one of the 11 on the first row because it thought it said 11 including the chain 3 i guess i read it wrong and that is my problem

It's a common problem. Reading the pattern has always been a problem for me. I sometimes read and reread them before I begin.

my grandma tried to teach me to crochet before she past but she only taught me the basics i have learned the rest on my own, but never have learned to read patterns very well. Also my having dyslexia does not help either, lol.

this, like the other groups, is an awesome crowd!
I'll agree with that.

Has anyone heard from Sebocat? I've sent her an pm but no response. I have her address and I'll send her a card, if I can find it. I hope I don't have to go up there.

Oh wow...there is a crochet thread on BYC? How nice! Hi I'm Peggy....and I also crochet. Just started an "E Pattern" for a chicken potholder last night. I haven't made anything other than baby hats in a couple years, but i have several afghans going that I need to get back to. No time for big stuff with a toddler to look after. Anyway, this is the pattern I am working on, from an Annie's Attic book called "whimsical Potholders" . Meet Henrietta the chicken.
From the pattern book

My version so far. I have never seen a green chicken, but our kitchen is green, ha ha.

So far it's going good, I am making this test version with acrylic yarn scraps, before I try it with the Peache's and Cream cotton yarn it calls for.
