Crochet "Chat"

I just finished weaving in all of the tails and it's finally done! 49 traditional, five-round Granny Squares with a Shell edging. It's for my (soon to be)9yr old niece as an early birthday present, she should go nuts over it. We're headed over the Pass to see them today.

Was done by myself(green), my sister(purple) & grandmother(yellow)... we all ended up working on the blue since I changed the pattern half way through, lol. I got the fun job of attaching all the squares and doing the shells on the border. Should be 45"+ square.

Blue squares were initially going to be green also but the green I started with was an odd brand and I didn't have enough. Pretty pleased with how it turned out though!
Very nice, I bet she loves it.

Hi, all. I'm just now starting to learn crochet. In fact, the first time I touched a hook was Dec. 23rd, when my SIL grabbed me and told me it was easy and I could do it. I had no interest at all prior that, except for maybe the day I had to buy a skein of yarn in order to learn how to tie a quilt (had been hand quilting for almost 30 years, so yeah, I'm backwards, lol). She gave me a hook and three skeins of yarn.

My first attempt was a shell stitch scarf (yea for youtube!). It is wonky as heck on the edges, but soft and warm and I gave it to a good friend who walks dogs in the cold right now. Then, I did fingerless gloves, another scarf (all wrong, I might add) and am onto a second scarf.

Here are some things I've tried so far. Remember, I'm just a newbie, so forgive the mistakes. My son was a good sport to model a pink scarf, lol.

These scarves are made using two yarns at once on the hook. First one was the "all wrong" one. Second one in progress.

It all looks great to me. You'd never know you just got started in crochet.

Nice. if go back a bit in the thread Bleenie posted a pattern for hats, they are a great easy pattern.

Great afghan!

I am sooo close to having the owl afghan done, I just have the edging left. My daughter goes in to have her gallbladder removed tomorrow, so I might take it with me if I don't get it done tonight. But I will for sure be taking some crochet with me to keep me busy while I wait. I really need to go around the house and pick up all my hooks I have laying all over. I don't know why I don't put them back where they belong, it can be very frustating hunting for hooks when you need a certain one

Cute owls, Lori! I bet that did take a ton of work.

I finished that second scarf, just a simple single crochet stitch with fringe, but it only took a day. Guess if I was better, it would take less time. I want to do something with a less dense stitch, but I saw the seed stitch ones and I like that and that's only slightly less dense.

My goal is to do this exact wrap, though in a different color:

BUT, the instructions, though I get what the actual stitches are, don't make sense, the order of them, that is. It is frustrating that I can't figure them out. I watched youtubes of the "dc3tog" and all that, so I get that it's a decrease, but just check out the instructions and you see what I mean. I will have a discombobulated mess, I bet, if I tried to do this wrap now. Could be I'm just too new to this. Not sure about all the words between the ** and the [ ], how they work:
Couldn't get the quotes to do right on this for some reason, so sorry about that.
Chain 159 loosely (that I get, LOL)

Row 1: Dc3tog working over 4th ch from hook and next 2 ch, ch 1, [tr in next ch, ch 1] twice, (tr, ch 1, tr) in next ch, [ch 1, tr in next ch] twice, ch 1, *dc7tog over next 7 ch, ch 1, [tr in next ch, ch 1] twice, (tr, ch 1, tr) in next ch, [ch 1, tr in next ch] twice, ch 1; repeat from * to last 4 ch, dc4tog over last 4 ch, turn—13 pattern repeats.
Row 2: Ch 3, dc in next ch-1 sp, [dc in next tr, dc in next ch-1 sp] 5 times, dc in next tr, *dc2tog over next 2 ch-1 sps (skipping the dc7tog in between), dc in next tr, dc in next ch-1 sp] 5 times, dc in next tr; repeat from * across to last ch-1 sp, dc2tog over last ch-1 sp and last dc3tog, turn.
Row 3: Ch 3, sk first dc2tog, dc3tog over next 3 dc, ch 1, [tr in next dc, ch 1] twice, (tr, ch 1, tr) in next dc, [ch 1, tr in next dc] twice, ch 1, *dc7tog over next 7 dc, ch 1, [tr in next dc, ch 1] twice, (tr, ch 1, tr) in next dc, [ch 1, tr in next dc] twice, ch 1; repeat from * to last 4 dc, dc4tog over last 4 dc, turn.
Repeat Rows 2 and 3 until piece measures 24"/61cm wide (or to desired width). Fasten off.

FINISHING
Fringe

Cut remaining yarn into strands 14–16"/35.5–40.5cm long. Holding 2 strands together, fold fringe in half. *Insert crochet hook from WS to RS in side edge of wrap, pull fold through, insert ends into fold and pull tight against edge; repeat from *, working across side edge. Repeat across other side edge. Optional (knotted fringe): Draw one end of the 2 strands all the way through the piece, folding the strands in half, until all 4 ends are even, tie an overhand knot about 1"/2cm from side edge.
