Crochet "Chat"

It's from someone's site. I've used her patterns before. This one is an irregular chevron type pattern, this one:

Finally, I went back to the page and read the comments. Others were having the same trouble as me so I don't feel so dumb, but I should have read the comments b4 I did it twice and frogged it twice, LOL. It just didn't seem right to leave so many stitches at the end of each row simply not done. Now, her answer to the other folks says that the edges will appear rippled, while the photo does NOT appear that way to me. I guess since I'd used her patterns before, even a ripple one, with no trouble, I didn't think to check to see if there was trouble in the pattern had by other crocheters. Now, it's several balls of yarn and I don't think I'll do it again. Might stick to a regular ripple pattern. I like the ripple/wave afghans and was doing this in my high school colors, which happen to be the colors of the high school my sons graduated from (different school than me, different county, same state), orange and blue (or mango and iris, per Red Heart With Love color names).

I usually do not like ripple crochet, but that is the best one I have ever seen.

Ugh! It stinks to get so far into it and realize there is a pattern problem.

I really liked it, too, which is why I wanted to do it.

Yeah, I just wish she'd said in the pattern itself that it will look unnatural on the ends but to just stick exactly to the pattern and it will come out right in the end, that it will have a ruffle effect. It looked very, very odd leaving so many stitches open on the ends, so I just put DCs in each stitch to the end of every row and of course, it was "W" shaped all the way out rather than getting a straight up edge like the picture seemed to show. Oh, well, live and learn, right?

If you look at the pic carefully you can see her edges are ruffled too, she has just taken the pic in a way to down play that. Most of the edges are rolled under so you aren't seeing the real edge, but if you look past the focus to the background you can see in the unfocused areas they are wavey. I didn't notice it until I went back and looked carefully.

At second look, I saw that on one side, but not on the one closest to the camera. Even then, it almost looked like a trick of light or angle that one side was sort of uneven. I'm changing to a different pattern, a softer wave pattern. I don't have it in me to try this one again right now.

ETA: Well, even this one has what I think is a mistake in it. If you do it exactly as instructed, you end up with the peaks and valleys offset from one another. Good grief, I'm cursed, LOL! It says "repeat step 2 and 3 until you achieve length desired". Well, you can't really do that or it doesn't work. You can only repeat step #3.

This was my first attempt at that M's and W's ripple blanket that didn't work out on the edges. You can see how it doesn't end straight.

then, I frogged it and tried it with DC2tog on each end. No dice. Didn't even take a picture of it. Thought it was working out for quite some time, but it fooled me, so I was back to square one.

And now, this is the lazy wave one I decided to do instead, not as exciting by any means. I'll probably try the other one again at some future date in different colors.

Our brand new, albeit small, Walmart Supercenter opened today in Blue Ridge, Ga, the next town from me, making it the closest Walmart. It's about 13 miles from my house, whereas the next closest and the one I was used to shopping in is in Murphy, NC, about 16.5 miles away. I was holding my breath while walking through it and was so excited to see that, though it was quite small, it has both FABRIC and YARN! They even had the Red Heart with Love in both colors I'm using on this afghan.

That is awesome so few wally worlds have fabric anymore. I am fortunate to work in a town that has a Hancocks for fabric and a Hobby Lobby for yarn, and a wally world 10 miles from my home that has both still too.
