Crochet "Chat"

I put up more figs this afternoon and shelled a half a gallon of purple hull peas.
I lost 8 baby chicks over the weekend so I have been pretty bummed out over that. They had coccis-something-or-other and they are on meds now so hope no more die.
Getting ready to kill one roo that is a little over 4 months old. Just now figured out he is a roo or he would have been dead and eaten or frozen long time ago. Hope he is not too tough or we will have to pressure cook him. Really not wanting to do it cuz I hate plucking feathers more than most anything else but he is mean to my hens and BOs eat alot!

Guess I will get back to work in my kitchen and try to talk myself into taking care of the roo lol.

Algo - Good Luck with your roo... sorry to hear about your babies. Well I got 10 squares put together on my afghan today... still got ALONG way to go........ still got tomato sauce on the stove simmering and 4 gallon bags of tomatoes in the freezer, more to do tomorrow, plus can salsa

Thanks Jen! It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Just been a long time since I have had to do that. I actually found out that I had no idea how to do the gutting part. I have always done everything else but never that. DH or someone else always did that while I plucked but this time I had to do it all so DH could take my 2yo down the road for a walk so he wouldn't know the roo he had just been rubbing in the cage was being processed. Not sure what age it is ok to let little ones know what is really going on but don't think 2 is old enough yet.

I finally got around to doing some serious crocheting tonight while I was watching a movie. Got 11 and 1/2 centers done for my hexes. That is serious for me considering I have not crocheted anything in months! lol

Jen I cut veggies straight from my garden too on sunday and canned 9 jars of salsa..nothing like that feeling of putting a jar in your cabinet of food you've grown and canned!! Made that table runner yet?!! lol!! I might get started o that this weekend myself. Have a great day ya'll!!

I just got enough veggies out of the garden to eat. There wasn't enough to can or freeze. I'm just getting the hange of this gardening thing in the desert. It is quite challenging not only due to the heat, but the wind and getting the right PH in the soil. Our sand/granite is very alkaline. I got very good veggies this year so maybe I can expand next year. We have a long growing season which is good. I used to do what all of you younger women did when my children were home(7)as I had a 1/4 acre garden so I could feed everyone and put things up for the winter. I would also trade my old fashioned pears that were huge and hard as a rock to a neighbor who had hogs and I would get sausage, bacon and hams in exchange. It's good to hear some of the old traditions are being kept up. God bless all of you.

I still need to get the babys afghan done, do my hexs, SS coming up, take care of hubby (he is staying off the foot....miracle) & his IV antibiotic, and to top this all off dd that is due was trying to make her son a car seat cover. Well, my machine acted up on her, so I went to help fix it. Hmmm that will take some looking into, so I told her if all else fails I will sew it by hand!

I have about 40 jars. I had a lot of green beans, peppers, cabbage, but it was just too we for my tomatoes. I only got about 15 jars of tomatoes. I usually get about 40. I make salsa and juice, and just regular tomatoes. I still have some coming on so I'll get a few.
I made some freezer pickles too.

Thanks for all the hugs and stuff for my little chicks. Their loss was a really good lesson for me. I will know better next time.

I have enough Corid to last me a life time now. I accidentally ordered 2 shipments cuz the first guy I contacted about shipping me some said he would but never called me back so I got online and ordered from another company. The same day I did that, the first guys shipment came in the mail with no bill and he never got any credit card info from me. My second order had already been shipped so I will have 2 bottles of the stuff when it gets here.
