Today my team for the Battle of the Books went to our district competition and all 7 of them are in the Kid's Club, and all 7 of the sat quietly on the bus full of rowdy, rude students from other schools and worked on the crochet project,, including the boys! The other teacher/sponsors asked me how on "God's Green Earth" as one put it did I get my team to be so quiet and polite. They were that way throughout the competition, at lunch, on the bus, during the awards,, etc. I just told them that your students reflect how you treat them. I respect my students and in return they respect me. They would not be caught dead acting like those others were in public. One of the boys finished a neck scarf he was working on and was showing it to me during the lunch break and another teacher asked him if his mom made it and he told her that no he had just finished it. She bought it from him for $20, it was out of yarn he purchased himself so I told him that it was fine if he sold it. I had to laugh because he got so happy and the first thing he said was now he could afford to get that fancy curly soft yarn for the scarf for his mom!! So now I'm trying to explain to them that yes they can set up a club for their kids and it's possible to find donors, I gave them the Donorschoose site to help out.
The biggest thing that impressed me though, was on the way back a couple of boys that were real yucks on the bus on the way there sat with some of my students and were trying to learn to crochet!

I was wondering if someone could help clarify these instructions from this project for me?

STITCH EXPLANATION:
2-dc Cl (2-dc cluster) (Yarn over, insert hook in ring and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw
through 2 loops) 2 times, yarn over and draw through all loops on hook.
3-dc Cl (3-dc cluster) (Yarn over, insert hook in ring and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw
through 2 loops) 3 times, yarn over and draw through all loops on hook.

I know how to do the dc, but not as a cluster,,

They all think I have a sickness ~ hehehe ~ just because I own a few more skeins of yarn.....ok, maybe a few boxes more ~ but never mind that ~ ;-D

I hope all of you start posting pics like mad ~ so we can all enjoy eachother's hard work!! I too wish there were more folks around here who crocheted ~ it seems as though there are so many knitters ( yah, I knit too, but my first love is crochet), but not so many crocheter's.

It's also called a popcorn stitch. A variation is to do the same thing with a treble stitch (in the middle of a double crochet project) just for the clusters. They come out very raised and look pretty cool on a large project. I wouldn't use the big clusters for a hat though. Good Luck! Here's some pics... Oops. I've got to quit answering questions before I check to see if someone else has. Although baustin it looks like you and I use a slight variation on our CL stitches since you leave 2 stitches on from each DC and I leave only one on. I'm going to try your variation on a future project to see how it looks.

Sorry if my explanation is too detailed. It's hard for me to describe these things without being able to show what I'm talking about. My kids tease me that I'm always wearing my "teacher's hat" and I don't even teach any more.
