Smitty's Farm :
Hey crochet friends. I was wondering if you have a fav pattern for scarves?
My favorite is an open square pattern that is just alternating SCs and DCs (SCs just skip a space). The pattern can be easily varied by creating solid bands of DCs with 2 or 3 bands of open squares running the length of the scarf. Edging this scarf with a SC, a ruffle, or a shell stitch adds a nice touch as well. Here's a pic of a basic one I crocheted and didn't gift.
I love the Lion Brand web-site. They have a bunch of free patterns and signing up is free!
Here's a couple of my favorites...

GAUGE:
13 sc + 12 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
STITCH EXPLANATION:
