* Remember w/ granny squares you are working in rounds and will continue to keep going the same way.
Slip stitch in the top of the very next chain
Then you slip stitch again in the next chain.
Your learning experiences sounds like mine. My grandmother taught me all the basics when I was about 7 yrs old, but she didn't teach me how to read patterns. When I was younger I'd play around w/ it free form making things. I'd buy books over the years when I got older yearning to make beautiful things like she did, but couldn't figure out the freakin mumbo humbo pattern. She had passed by then, so I couldn't ask her to help me. Later when I was married and pregnant w/ my daughter I wanted to make her an afghan so bad, so my MIL taught me a pattern that her mother taught her. I'll get started and something didn't look right, so I'd pull it out, try again. It's a process. I love when I finally have done a repeated pattern enough to have it memorized so the crocheting can flow. You'll get there....trust me!
