I always do 3 chains w/ a dc unless told otherwise. Perhaps you are adding an extra stitch in too? maybe going one too far at the end? Looking at the rounds, they don't line up properly. I would bet it's because of the chain 2 instead of 3. Try it that way and see how it goes. There will be a bit of a seam but it really shouldn't be too obvious, esp if you're using a single color and not a muti-color yarn.

No 2 chains doesn't make a point like that. You are adding one extra stitch at the end of the row. That used to confuse me too. I don't like the tiny gap that it leaves when I skip the starting stitch so on the last stitch, after looping over and drawing through (so with a DC you now have 3 loops on the hook), I place the hook in that "last" stitch and draw another loop through the "faux" stitch then loop over again and pull through three loops instead of the normal 2. Then finish like a normal DC. This is also how you decrease when you are crocheting, so if you get confused just look at a video on decreasing.

Oh as far as the 2 or 3 chains to make a beginning DC goes, I know a lot of folks that use both. I have used both as well and don't have problems with either but the reason for the variation is some people chain larger stitches than they crochet normally so 3 chains makes that beginning DC look odd. If you chain nice tight stitches then use the 3 chains. It will look better. If you chain larger stitches then stick to the 2 chains.

Thanks for the information. I'll try to keep track of my number of stitches better. Does the chain count as one single/double stitch depending on which you do? I don't think I've been counting it as one but instead counting the stitches after.

It almost always counts as one, unless noted otherwise

I ran across this and thought it was cute. I did search of this thread and didn't find it. My apologies if it is a repeat.

Two more crocheted horses from the same pattern as before, one smaller (one strand of (#2) instead of 2 strands) and one larger, made with chunky weight. I say the small one, 12" high, is "decorative" size and the large one 22" high is "hugable" size.
