Most of mine are $15 each. Some of the yarns I use cost almost that much to make the hats, so things even out in the end.I generally don't buy economy yarn, but I do find some one sale or clearance of the nicer yarn and I'll stock up. I do make some basic thick dc beanies I sell for $5 using Red Heart Super Saver. I can get 2.5 adult hats from one solid color of the SS yarn. It takes me about a hour to make the $5 hats and up to 6 hours for some of the $15 hats.

I figure if I take the time to make something that takes away some time from my 1-year-old, I'm going to price it that way.

What gets me is that there is a local photographer I have contacted about doing some things for her and she responded that she prefers to have things shipped from Etsy. Umm, hello? I have an Etsy shop with some of the SAME things she uses as props and she's paying MORE for them. She's a local craftsman snob from what I've heard... she'll post a photo with a caption that tells where she got her props and NONE are from locals. I know - weird rant.

That is still roughly $3 per hour best case scenerio, and far less for the ones made from the "fancy" yarn.

I have been trying to find a pattern for quick hats so I can make some for the shelters around here but so far I haven't been pleased with the results. So if anyone has a favorite hat pattern they'd like to share that would be great!!

LOVE the Owl Scarf!! I just adore all the big-eyed owl patterns i have seen lately. I have a pattern i have been using for the hats i'm making for the shelter(the ones in the pic i posted). If you want that pattern I can post it. If you're a quick hooker they take less than an hour for an adult size.

The model is pretty cute too, reminds me of my niece with her messy red hair when she's "being a farmer" when she comes to visit, lol.

and I am currently working on a crocheted owl blanket using the the same owls in the scarf. I would really appreciate the hat pattern. (I just didn't want to ask you for another pattern LOL)
