Crockpot (slow cooker) incubator - take 2

Eggs are in the pot!

I drove an hour to a small hatchery to pick up the eggs today.

When I got home, I immediately candled and one egg showed a large red development/thing floating inside.

I sent a message to the hatchery to inform them of this, as well as thanking them for the eggs.

They responded with a thumbs up emoji. :idunno

Whatever, lol.

questionable egg was marked with a “?” and put in with the rest. You never know 😅

Good luck again! I will be watching this thread to see what hatches! 😁

Some readings so far.

The larger dips are when I went to turn the eggs. peak temps are at 36.8-37.1C. Heating and cooling fluctuations are mostly within 0.5C, which makes me very happy

Some midnight drama...
My jerkface cat must have raided a cottontail nest. Came down stairs to find him enthusiastically meowing over a bunny barely clinging on to life.

Checked it for puncture marks and didn’t find any, so I have it on a heating pad for now.

Hopefully it’ll stay alive until tomorrow when I can call up some local wildlife rehabbers and see if anyone will take it in :/

Bunny didn’t make it :/
It seemed to be doing better, even greedily took 1cc of kitten formula, but went down hill a few hours later. It also happened with another baby bird I rescued from my cat. They seem to get over the initial shock, and get better before quickly declining, I’m guessing the cat still managed to break skin, and the bacterial infection caused their ultimate death.

Oh well. Time to go turn my eggs.

Baby bunnies are hard to keep alive. Don't feel too bad, it's happened to me too.

Thanks 🥲 it died this morning before I could call the rehabber. I stayed up all night, and then when it died I kind of just slept on it.

I appreciate my cat being an excellent mouser, but I wish I could teach him to leave the birds and other critters alone.

My little Izzy swallowed a bunny whole once...it was very disturbing. I didn't realize it was a bunny till she was up to the ears😢

aww, what cuties! My cat has a knack of just eating the heads off his catches... sometimes if I’m lucky the kitten will finish off the rest. But more often than not I will get half a vole/mouse carcass lying in the middle of the cat room...

Izzy's daughter Tippy (the black one above) was trying to eat a lizard once but it latched onto the skin of her mouth and it really freaked her out. Idk if she even hunts anymore 😂
