Crockpot (slow cooker) incubator - take 2

I only found it when the room started smelling like something had died, which for once wasn’t figurative

We had a rat die in the walls of our house once, that was definitely the most awful smell ever.

Mine dropped one in the house behind some storage bins....

I almost thought it was still alive because it shifted a bit. Turns out it was just full of maggots

I know!


I know what that's like, whenever the trash bags outside don't go to the dump on time, the maggots get under them.

Wow!

Good luck! A couple of our broodies get as nasty as hornets, and bite like dogs! We have them in our recovery flock pen, in hopes we can break them!

She’s a fairly sweet birb! To me anyway..

I used to think she didn’t mind being handled by all people, but my friend who tried to hold her said that she didn’t want to be held and that was when I realized that she was actually particular towards me.

I switch out the eggs under her.
She tucked them under herself and I double checked to make sure they were all nicely under her floof

Re: Thermometer idea - decided not to put it under her because of the hard edges. I didn’t want to risk cracking an egg. I’ll see if I can somehow pad it before putting it with the eggs tomorrow.

. Humidity is kind of high, I’ll take the lid off and see if that helps...

I noticed that I never outlined my set up...

So I typed out all the equipments and instructions. And then dumb dumb me was just about finished with the giantly long post when I accidentally hit the back button

taking the lid off worked for decreasing humidity. I layered another towel on top... air temperature went up, lol.

Yellow line is around when I took the lid off.




I nearly forgot to take Paint out to do her poop and chow

Having a broody is such a set it and forget it thing...

Got her out at 8pm when everyone else was already on the roost, whoops.

My broody made like four humongous poops the entire time she was broody. It was so gross. I accidentally stepped in one
