aww thanks. The hatching experience is always amazing, so it doesn’t bother me too much. Just that Pullets are just easier to rehome...

To be honest, I can only end up keeping 1 or 2 for my own flock since I already have 7!

Well, It’s nothing compared to your 70. 🤣
You're welcome, anytime. We have never re-homed anyone before, so I wouldn't know what it is like. 😂

Believe me, we wish we could downsize at times, but we aren't the kind of farmers who cull our birds, we let them go out naturally! :)
We have so many pens built around the property, every night we split up, feed, and water everyone. The main flock, around 40 chooks in there, consumes two bags of chicken feed usually every week. 😳

One reason I don't keep quail,,,, they need to be kept in cages, or a secure run with total overhead covering as well. My chickens free-range during day in backyard, when I'm outside. The quail would fly away. :old :hit

It definitely will be a different experience!

I’m trying to figure out whether I want my cage raised or on the ground, deep litter style...I have a pretty big roll of hardware cloth I still need to use 😅

Read up on cage design. Main thing is the height dimension. Usually short in altitude. This way quail do not attempt to fly. Slightly taller, can result in quail breaking their skulls. :hit by hitting the ceiling portion. A walkin type where quail can free-fly to higher perches is fine.
Many quail cages,, I read peeps keep hardware cloth as floor, so lil gumdrops fall thru.

Last crockpot egg zipping!
Pipped right through the center, lol.

Yes! Lots of research to be done over the next few weeks...

When I was little, we knew nothing about keeping quails, and I brought one home from the pet shop and kept it in a cage. It scalped it self by trying to constantly fly out 🥲

Oneday I forgot to close the cage and it flew away, lol.

I don’t know what I would do without the internet!

7 total hatches!!!

Momma Crockpot hatched 5/6...:wee

I think I moved the broody eggs too early during a critical embryonic developmental phase, and that’s why the broody ended up losing 3 . Oh well, live and learn

Two are still drying off under momma’s wing, but here are the first 5! 66B1600B-25A6-4A37-963C-08B21EB0EABC.jpeg

Momma’s worked hard :)
