Crossing Black Australorp Rooster x Splash Orpington Hen = All Blue chicks???

The black in Australorps is pretty dominate and it usually will prevail. You will get some buff leakage though. The F2's will have more buff if you breed them back to a buff.

So the BO hens I put in with the BA's will also produce all black chicks?
What about eye color?

Black may not be fancy but the glossy feathers and those piercing black eyes I think are gorgeous. Good multi-purpose and broody too! No Orp roo and seeing they were a foundation breed for the BA's and similar attributes thought they'd fill out my breeding pen nicely since I only had a trio of BA's.

Here is what I just hatched yesterday

Blue/Buff Orp on the left, Blue Orp/BR mix on left. I have a Splash Orp rooster over Buff Orp and BR hens. I hope the BR mix ends up with barring, kinda looks like it does. I want a male to work on Blue Barred Rocks.

The chicks may have some gold leakage, but will mostly be black. This genetics stuff is fun to learn about

The BO crossed with the BR will give you sex links where the hens will be gold and the roosters will be barred, The splash roo over the br hen could give you some barring pattern but I am not positive about that.

Thanks, I have been chatting with Ridgerunner on here about the genetics stuff. I only have the Splash rooster over RIR, BR and BO at this point. I set a RIR egg too, but it never developed(had a hairline crack in shell, I should have candled before hand. Learning lesson). The Orp/BR has signs of barring but not positive yet, will know better in a couple of days as they grow.

The chicks will be black with brown on the face, or face and head. They could also have a brownish ting to their down. Eye color will be black. Adult females will be black with a burnt orange/buff on the head and hackles. Females will also have some nonblack on the breast, Males tend to have the non black on their back and breast more on the back.

Thanks all! Is there some good sources on the genetics anyone could suggest? Breed Standards?
There is a color chart called kippenjungle it is in german or something but an english version is floating around here on BYC and the best book for standards is the SOP (standard of perfection) by the APA. I have never seen an online version of the book but have seen some standard descriptions on the web.
