Crossing my Red Ranger Hens.

Pics
The only problem is that about half of them end up with one white feather or one white toe so thats why I charge double for the good ones and then I give the culls away for free.
nice for people who want pets :love
But so often they get bred and chicks sold and dilutes the breed, hatcheries are good for that anyway... It's not like dogs that are registered and we used to sell w/- papers as pets... but it also is easier to get chicken culls and breed up to the sop

The one guy who gets all my culls likes tinker around and make all sorts of patterns with the FibroM trait. He was shocked I was giving them away because everyone else was charging him but I only charge for a product with a real value.

I processed 2 birds a bit earlier than the 5 pound mark. They were trouble so I figured why not see what its like to process birds a little early. I am not certain of their age because I lost track of which cockerel hatched when. The one on the left is younger and 1/2 Red Ranger (half turken) the one the right is a big older and 1/4 Red Ranger (half turken One Quarter Ayam Cemani) ... Significant breast meat is not there as compared to a bird just 1 pound heavier but the dark meat is very close to the 5 pound birds I processed.
As I get faster I will be doing 3 birds at a time.

Nice thigh's on that one on the left! Hubby like's the breast meat, so we get along fine! :gig

I checked my calendar and my best guess is that the birds were 10 and 13 weeks old with the larger one on the left being 10 weeks. I believe one was slightly larger than 4 pounds and the other slightly under 4 pounds. I did not weigh them last night but the heavier one was 4 pounds a few days ago and I guessed their weights on a combination of that information and what they felt like when I held them.

Free Roosters of this breed are finally started to show up, but very hard to find a female for sale. I breed them and sell the chicks for $6 a piece. Thats a common chick price here and about double what I charge for for random breed. I want to bring the price down on them because they do not cost any more to breed. Infact they cost a bit less, they don't eat much. The only problem is that about half of them end up with one white feather or one white toe so thats why I charge double for the good ones and then I give the culls away for free.

Wow! Here they are $99/chick straight run... from a larger supplier, but probably not great quality. Hatching eggs $25 each.

Those are the prices I see often too. However the market is flooding with them and I am seeing the Roosters pop up for free now. I have yet to see a female for sale on criagslist around here, when I do find one it turns out to be a different breed and someone is trying to fool someone.

That is a great result in a 10 week old bird. As I type, I have a 7 week old NN rooster and a 8 week old RR running about the yard. :fl that they both make it to breeding age.

You see lots of listings hatching eggs on e-bay but who knows how great quality or if they are pure.
or if they are even the breed claimed. I got burned on that. For Ayam Cemani look for Shady Grove farm from West Virginia, I got great birds from them. Others I hatched out birds with multiple colored feathers. Then when I finally realized it their eBay account was closed.
