Regarding the sale area - we'll be arriving Friday - is there any point in looking or will everything be sold?

Don't know about this show, but at Ohio last year, stuff was coming in throughout the day on Saturday, so my guess would be that it could happen here too. The sales area hadn't quite seen everything yet by Friday evening! I think people make last-minute decisions to bring stuff as they are packing and don't quite have the space to put it in the sales area at first, and so have to sell some before they can get more out.

Go ahead and come. If the sale area is empty of what you want, look in the showroom. Many will place for sale cards on their coops after judging. I know of several breeders that will sell everything they take off their premises. They never bring home anything they take to a show. Talk to exhibitors in the aisle if the breed you want. Check out the breed club booths. They may be able to introduce you to a breeder that has entries for sale.

What breeds/varieties are you looking for? Start contacting breeders now. Maybe they can bring some just for you. We are already selling for Crossroads. We sold some Buckeye Bantams a month ago. They will be going to Crossroads on their way to California. Who knew to go from Arkansas to California you have to go through Indy!

Check out the various breed club and National clubs booths. Many will have raffles and silent auctions. The Exhibition Turkey Fanciers will have a $50 gift certificate for poultry supplies from a national supplier at raffle, along with numerous birds at silent auction. Just bring plenty of $1 bills to put in the many raffles!

Folks per http://www.weather.com/weather/narrative/Indianapolis+IN+USIN0305 here is what the forcast is for Crossroads. If you forget a jacket, RUNNNNN to the APA table and buy an APA Sweatshirt ASAP. Supply will be limited! But Pat said she will have some available. Be sure to pack appropriatly. Not sure on the interior tempatures. I plan on wearing layers so if it gets hot inside, I can shed a jacket etc.

Today is Monday. Many have alraedy started their way to Crossroads. Some folks in Washington State posted elsewhere that they were leaving early this morning with a carpool and a stock trailer. We will leave early, early Thursday morning with at least 4 in our van and lots of birds! Packing a cooler, so the only stops will be for a 4H Cloverbud to take emergency breaks!

Is it legal to strap a Cloverbud to luggage racks? Just wondering.....in case we need to.

We're leaving between 11 and 12pm on Wednesday night so we can get to Indy around lunchtime, including eating and pitstop time. I'm so excited, I can hardly sleep now! Hope I'm awake enough to drive.

Jim is giving good advice here....I'll add that you can find the owners of the birds and maybe even buy something before the judging or right after, even though there will never be a For Sale sign put up. The old saying "Everything is for Sale" is kind of true....if you have the right kind of money. If you see something you like, it is OK to ask if it is for sale.

That sounds like a really good idea - very safe from a quarantine / NPIP point of view. I have always been reluctant to show birds because of what they might pick up from the other contestants. Wish the judges disinfected their hands / etc between birds.

Right now I don't have enough show-worthy stock to spare any - that's the only drawback.

Best - exop
