Hey not sure yet if I can make it - will depend on A) if my son's soccer game Thursday night gets rained out and they reschedule it to this weekend and B) whether I can talk my husband into going ... although I may go by myself without him and leave him to chase the 2 kids around at home

Someone suggested bringing coop & chook photos - love that idea - maybe label them on the backs and lay them out on a table for everyone to look at? I'm sure there's some sort of contest idea in here but I've been up since 4am and my mind is drawing blanks on this...
If I can make it I'll bring some sort of side dish - tuna/mac salad maybe or something. Unfortunately my tomato plants were beat up badly by Irene and the few fruits I've gotten since just aren't the pretties things; if I have ripe cucumbers maybe I'll bring cucumber salad. Time will tell!
Hope to put some faces to the names soon, -Jen

Hi- I went to the place a few of you told me about- Lebeniacs- or how ever it is spelled- off route 9? that is the right place? Anyway- I came away from there feeling so stupid. The lady there basically said she can't get chick stuff after July because it is not hatching time anymore. When I asked her for any advice or tips she told me to" run in a corner and hide!" I could not believe she said that to me. There was another lady there that said "you're smiling now but you won't be in 2 months when you come back" Well needless to say I will not be going back there. I know this is not the traditional time to hatch and they will need to be in the house longer than if they were born in the spring but did they really need to be like that? Now I feel like we are idiots for doing this now! We are so excited about this and after watching these chicks hatch and caring for the eggs for 21/22 days I care so much about taking care of these guys and doing what I can for them. Sorry- I needed to vent. She also said that chick grit or any grit is a waste of money. Everyone that replied to a post of mine earlier said that if we give them any treats- after 2 weeks old, that we need chick grit. obviously once they are outside they should be able to do this on their own. some even said they use chick grit when the chicks are a few days old as a rule. Would love opinions on this!.

I am looking forward to meeting everyone and picking your brains!
I got a bunch of chips and pretzels to bring. let me know if I can bring anything else!

Hi, I've been there one time. Needless to say I personally have not been back b/c they ran out of just about everything I asked for. Not only that the older lady behind the counter was rude. So, I feel for you, I really do and have seen it myself. I would suggest you go to an Agway and request Chick starter in a 50lb bag at the counter checkout. Or you can go the Tractor Supply in Farmington on Route 6 and get chick starter there and if they are out look for the green flockraiser bag that is 20% and if you need to treat them for Cocci you can purchase Corrid separately. Best Wishes, and I look forward to meeting you Saturday
