And what are the bantams supposed to weigh?

Is a pound and a half about the right weight? And I figure I'll run into problems with losing vitality and the such as I reduce the size, guess I'll be grading with some white asil, or other breed. Is grading with something with a different comb a big deal? Asil are expensive and rare!!! How about my other questions, too?

I'm thinking maybe Old English Game Bantams would be good? The whites, which is what I would want, have white beaks and legs, and OEGB's have no white earlobes.

Well, candled the eggs I put in the incubator on the 21st today. 7 of 14 showed no sign of development. That is a 50% infertility rate. I put a secind batch in on the 25th. I hope to see better results.

I set 39 eggs in the incubator 2 weeks ago. I candled them a few days ago and had 31 fertile out of 39. 7 of the 8 infertile eggs were from 1 hen.

i am loading up the incubator today. mostly delawares but a few cuba/thai grades

I've been setting every week for a while now. Numbers aren't big, but getting some chicks out nonetheless. This week will be hatch number 5 for the year. Chicks are all growing really well.

Two broody hens hatched out 6 total chicks this weekend out of 16 eggs... I think the weather was just horrible, oh well. Looks like 1 wheaten, 4 brown reds, and a red pyle. I also finally bought an incubator (I've used all hens the past 4-5 years to hatch for me..) and loaded it up with mostly Cubalaya eggs, plus a few Ko eggs. So far I have 14 Cuba chicks out, plus the eggs in the incubator. It's been a huge PITA the past week trying to manage these breeding pens and collect eggs, ridiculous cold here. I hope all the work pays off in the end with better results from much earlier hatches.

You know I prefer the earlier hatches; of course, I'm a lot warmer than you are. All I know is that the chicks hatched late, for me, just don't do well in our heat. If I can get them on up before the heat comes then everything is ok. I hope it works for you too.
