This is the strangest bird I have on the yard that I've kept.
He is/was a nice Blue Red. He went through his first moult this fall. The Red came back nearly Black.... that's right Black! There is still some Red but not much. OH, I should add this was in the hackle only. Previous to the moult it was not stripped or tipped with Black, I've had Red bleed through on a Black but never Black bleed through on a Red.
There is always something new to experience and learn with these birds.

Some of mine that were late hatch. They are approximately 5 mos. old and were born outside under a hen. The funny part is that they are pure largefowl and weigh no more than two pounds each! i wanted a start in bantams, and didnt have to even try!
I love the back line on these three pullets.

That may very well work, then again it may not.
As you know, late hatch chicks are often smaller: much smaller. However, they still retain the same genetic makeup as larger earlier hatched chicks. Often you can breed them and the result will be normal size birds.
That said, anything is worth a try. Just keep using the smallest hens and you'll get there quickly. As long as you are using small hens it really doesn't matter that much how large the cocks are because the chicks are generally going to take on the size of the mother.... there are exceptions, but this is generally so.
