Cure for cats on the counter?

Heading to ebay to see what a scat mat is....

As for aluminum foil....is it to deter them or entertain them? Mine like balls of foil. They chase them all over the house. Also like the little plastic thingy you pull off of the lid to the milk jug, every beanie baby they can steal from my daughter's room, most recently discovered toy...a soda straw. They are not bored by any stretch of the imagination.

I'll have to try the citrus too. Wonder if soaking cotton balls in orange or lemon oil will work?

Oh the joy of ninja kittens!!

Mine have been mostly reformed by judicial use of canned air. They HATE the hiss.
Lately I don't even have to spray it (in the general direction of the ruckus), tapping the container with a finger has the desired result.

Good luck and they eventually grow out of it. Of course that may take 10-12 years

I have a friend at work that has used this as a solution--she said it worked great becuase she didn't have to always be around to correct the cat (as with a squirt gun) and the cat learned faster.

Then she used the mat to teach her dog to stay out of the trash and keep of the couch.

I think she has gotten her money's worth out of it

According to DH, cats hate the smell of citrus. Have you tried citrus spray or Plug-Ins?

We keep a spray bottle of water on the counter to punish our four-month-old offenders. Just seeing us grab it now is enough to make them think twice.

I saw a YouTube video once of a guy who somehow hooked up a motion detector to his blender to scare the cats off his counters. It cracked me up!

I feel your frustration!! Our cats are EVERYWHERE!! We, have tried everything, but they outsmart us everytime! I wish there was a no-fail way to take care of this, and, of course, the marking too! My cats have be fixed since kittenhood!
