Curled feet.

Bit late but I’m back!

So I spent a lot of the day yesterday manipulating it’s feet flat. Seemed to make some progress with it so last night was looking good. This morning Scott was up before me and came into the bedroom with the chick in his hand! Apparently there was an awful lot of screaming in the brooder and when he looked the bigger ones had this poor little one by either leg pulling it apart :( It was starting to look a bit splayed leg but this has taken the biscuit. What ever has happened it’s not looking good. I’ve tried taping these legs back together but it’s poping off or it lays there twitching with its legs stuck out the back. I’ve moved it into another box with a couple of the smaller ones for company. I’ve had to water it today as it can’t stand.

:hugs I am so sorry!

It is likely too late to fix the legs. They need to be a couple of days old for that.

Poultry can be quite brutal!

Are you going to cull?

York, Im not one to advise and I wouldnt except its you. My York. LOL I would cull Im sure both legs are .. what do they call it ? Dislocated.? at the hip. Im sorry. Thats a lot of work to go though and if you can pop them back in place cut a bandaid long ways and try that. Its not strong enough to pull that off. :he I thought the toes were fused ?

Think I’m going to have to but I really don’t want to. This splay leg was not the original issue and it didn’t look like this last night which is why it’s so disappointing. One leg was slightly stuck out and I was working on the feet. Gosh those others have been wicked!

It happens! Is the injured one still a lot smaller? Often that is the issue--They see the smaller one as being food not a flock mate

Thanks granny and yes those toes were curled with very little movement in the ankle joint. Spent a lot of yesterday rubbing them flat. Whatever has happened last night has either broken them or literally stretched it all apart.

I’ve been trying to tape it with medical white tape stuff. Don’t have any real band aid only vet wrap.

Yes it’s the smallest and was the last straggler that hatched. This is probably why it’s like it is.
