Thank goodness, I thought I would end up with 4 cocks, 2 is fine for me I bought the silkie to breed with my female, to sell and my friend wanted to hatch some. Buff orp is pullet as well? I wouldn't mind it being a rooster, as long as it doesn't start acting up.They are a very fast maturing breed, yes.

It depends on the breed and flock location.Does anybody know what time chickens will usually start to slow down in the egg laying process?
I do know that they slow down in the winter, hence the 3 eggs a dayIt depends on the breed and flock location.
In poultry, ovulation is dependent on melatonin which is in influenced by day length. When hens start to get less than 12 hours of light per day they start to slow down in egg production dramatically. Less than 8 hours and they pretty much stop.
First season layers can sometimes lay through their first winter, but usually egg production ceases with the change of seasons.
Typically they slow down by their second year.I do know that they slow down in the winter, hence the 3 eggs a day. But do you know what year they may slow down.
My guess is around 6-7. I don’t know if that is accurate though. (Are oldest hens are australorps)
Thanks a lot!Typically they slow down by their second year.
No problem! :highfiveThanks a lot!![]()
