Cyst under chickens rear

I can get her treated but unfortunately it’s $150 just to walk through the door and then I’m assuming they’d want to get rid of whatever it is so ontop of that it’s just too much for 1 bird. As much as I love her got to be realistic.

She’s honestly top hen, first to eat, first to greet me. She seems in no pain at all. Maybe I should wait?

I don’t think she’s laying, she’s never been a good layer. She is a bit older I think also.

I'm sorry, I misunderstood your post earlier! I thought she was in a state of decline.

So she is fairly active, eating/drinking, etc.?
If she is, then I would wait to do anything else. Mine are 'pet livestock' so, I let mine keep going unless they can't. If she is happy within herself, is not being picked at, etc. then just keep watch on her and enjoy her.

No she does the picking on, she’s the alpha hen. Honestly not one thing wrong except for the fact of a physical lump. I wonder if a course of antibiotics would help it? I have given her a one off dose when I lanced the ingrown feather but maybe I should try for a week?

Forgot to mention it’s still extremely soft to touch and she doesn’t mind you squeezing and massaging it. So it’s not painful at the lump.

I have never had one with a cyst like that, but I have had a hen with a very enlarged pouch under her vent. She had that for a couple of years, got around fine, managed to seem in decent shape until she finally died, presumably of a reproductive disorder. If it were me, I would just keep an eye on the cyst to make sure it is ‘t leaking or being pecked, and let her be a chicken with her buddies.

Since she is not laying eggs anymore, an antibiotic would not hurt her. Which kind do you have?

So no judgment, but I give them amoxicillin that’s left over from when my kids have been sick. Only .5ml... I might do that twice a day for 5 days and see if it makes a difference. I’ve been told this is okay to do from a breeder I’ve brought girls off.

Can you post a photos of the Amoxicillin you have? Is it Clavamox or Amoxicillin?

No judgement! You just want to give the correct dose if you can:)
Dosage of Amoxicillin is 125mg/kg (57mg per pound) given orally 2 times a day.

I agree, I would just watch the lump for any leakage or evidence of being picked at.
