Cyst under chickens rear

Of course it's ultimately your decision what you decide. Leftover human prescription antibiotics work just fine for chickens. Friends know to let me have their leftovers when they are finished with them. They sure do come in handy.

An antibiotic would be practical if you believe an infection is contributing to the lesion under discussion. In your poking and squeezing of the lesion, have you ever gotten any watery fluid or thick, cheesy substance out of it? Have you attempted to make a small incision and then put pressure on it to see what, if anything comes out? Also, note the smell of the contents of the lesion since bacteria will often have a foul odor.

I think you would be o.k. with 125mg/kg 2 times a day unless Kim (eggcessive) thinks otherwise.

I think you just go with the amoxicillin part of the clavamox. I think many vets are recommending 50 mg per pound twice a day. I just had to look that up yesterday. Some websites say 1/2 that much, but Poultry DVM and casportpony say that the larger 50 mg per pound twice a day dose is best.

This has been a confusing thing on BYC for years.
