TODAYS PROMPT: “Liar”
Have fun!
“The Elf King said you could be trusted Maudius! But he was wrong! You clouded his mind with your dark magic just like you did to me… I thought after all these years that maybe, just maybe my brother still held some small piece of his humanity. You said you had changed! But you’re a LIAR.” Qivlo shouted, his whole body trembling with rage. His hands, which had fallen to his sides, started to glow with a dark brown shadowy fog. It writhed and swirled around Qivlo’s palms, shifting and warping the air around them.
An expression of horror filled Maudius’s face, the realization of what was to come hitting him like a punch to the gut. “Qivlo…No. Please, brother don’t do this.” He pleaded, and for one second Qivlo paused, a look of sorrow filling his eyes, before the aura brightened and begun growing.
“It’s not Maudius anymore, his voice isn’t his.” He told himself, but a shadow of doubt crept in.
“Qivlo I know what they’ve said about me but, but you have to believe me! I have changed! Please brother….would mother really want this?” He pleaded, a desperate sadness in his voice.
Qivlo watched him, his eyes staring into his brothers, the brother he had sought to destroy.
“Could he have changed? Are the Elves wrong?” His mind battled over the questions. The energy began to fade as they locked eyes, then completely vanished from Qivlos palms. Maudius began to smile, at first it was a grateful and loving smile, the way he used to, before finding the Shaded Arrowhead that had corrupted him. But it grew, the corners of his mouth stretching farther then possible. A maniacal laughter forced its way out of Maudius, but a longing look stayed for just a second before being wiped away.
“He’s still in there…and I’ve just been fooled.” Qivlo realized, with a jolt of excitement mixed with fear and loss and anger.
The energy he'd been building up had withered away as whatever had control of Maudius talked him out of death. If he could just trap him maybe he could fix Maudius somehow. But Maudius had already begun to move, growing and warping the air with his own shadowy fog. Maudius rose into the air and cast several spells down toward Qivlo, which he blocked. Qivlo’s energy had returned, but just a little as he’d started conjuring it up again the moment he realized his mistake. It Enough to send a massive tree root coiling into the air around Maudius, encircling him and trapping him…for a moment. Maudius wriggled free and as he did, the Shaded Arrowhead came into view around his neck. “The arrowhead! He still has it. That must be what the thing inside him is attached to.” Qivlo thought hopefully, thinking of all the ways he could get it and free Maudius. But it was too late.
Maudius chanted a few words and immediately the air around him seemed to turn inside out, before opening a rift. Maudius went in…and it all disappeared.
