Everything is frozen.
It feels as though the world has suddenly stopped. At least, my place in it has.
Even my breath is refusing to move, my eyes locked ahead as shock racks through my veins.
Finally... after all these years...
The snow is still falling, a flake threatening to sweep into my unblinking eye and daring to almost break the moment. I can no longer see my breath plume into the air in front of me, though I am fully aware I am holding it.
Some sort of instinct, something rooted into my mind from years of searching and failing. Every moment of painful, dragging time spent trying to find something I was beginning to believe no longer existed.
Something inside, beyond my power, seemed to fear that so much as blinking or breathing would make him disappear.
My eyes flick slowly over the dark silhouette, every movement feeling like the risk of a lifetime.
"Jia informed me you would be here."
My lungs seem to constrict, as if trying to pull in a sharp inhale and failing through the unexplainable instinct to avoid breathing. My eyes finally reach the face of the voice, locking with the crystalline gaze staring back at me.
Or through me. I can't tell.
I suddenly realize he's still awaiting my response. My mind reels painfully quick, my breath finally sucking in as I replay the words in my mind. My instinct shifts slightly, a hand flying quickly up toward my temple and flicking a loose strand behind my ear as my posture shifts to a more confident stance. I can feel the moment melting slightly, though I still can't tear my eyes away from his.
"Yes, I'd hoped she would-"
Lord, please don't let that sound dumb-
"Though I was afraid my loss of contact would have... interfered with our meeting."
This is it. Finally, after all this time...
This is what I've been looking for... Right here.
Finally...

I was literally just lying in bed trying to come up with an idea for a story and this little scene reminded me of the prompt so-
Why not
