Dandelions

My girls loved earthworms when they were little, but now they turn their beaks up. Not sure why, I think they got corrupted with mealworms...

Speaking of spoiled chickens, I finally solved the great grape mystery. I was about to just give up on grapes, but this morning, just by chance, I stuck a grape through the fence and held on tight. The chickens came up, started pecking at it, and soon were shredding the grapes right out of my fingertips. I threw a few on the ground... They went untouched. It's not that my chickens don't like grapes, they just want to be hand fed grapes!! Reminds me of a scene in a home in ancient Greece, wealthy chicken lying on a featherbed while being fanned with giant ferns, their human slave feeding them grapes...

Maybe this has gone too far?

I am surprised that it is okay for chickens to eat grapes as they are poison to dogs and cats.
I have not tried to feed mine grapes and a little paranoid to do so. I even asked my daughter who
is a vet tech and she said she would be leary of it also. Anybody know why chickens can tolerate
the grapes. Just wondering. I think I will stick with the clover and honeysuckle for now. LOL.

I always used this list that I got from BYC for giving treats to my chickens:

When I landscaped my chicken yard I used this to make sure I didn't use any plants that are toxic to chickens (I also tested suitable plants for ones the chickens weren't interested in eating):

BTW, grapes are listed as a great treat for chickens.

Stray Mushrooms are mostly poisonous as you may never know the origin of these spores. Even if someone uses it then it has to be boiled for some time in water. But try avoiding those mushrooms itself. The mushrooms in your case are definitely bringing the toads in that area so try getting rid of that by proper cleaning of that area.

I take my hens to an avian vet who is very knowledgable about chickens, and has some of her own as pets. She feeds my gals grapes as a treat when they're in for care. I'm sure she wouldn't if they were a health hazard.

I remember the chickens picking up Muscadine grapes from under the arbor. They seemed to like the seed. I have never seen any chickens affected by eating them.

Mine adore grapes! I do chop them up though as mine are rescue hens and hadn't seen a grape before...they didn't get the hang if breaking them up and kept getting them stuck between their beak :D
