d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

For Ladyhawk "The Kentucky Leg Fungus"

Muahahahahaha and what a beautiful baby it is! JJ just let me know iffin ya don't want the infected bird. :)

I ask for all of your prayers tomorrow...we will be at 100 degrees by 10:00 am and a predicted high expected at 3pm of 113....with this ungodly humidity I will be amazed if I keep all of my birds alive. I am absolutely sick with worry over this. I am prepared to move them into my garage and open my basement door to air condition them inside but this is scaring the crap out of me. For those who do not know...I lost 14 birds in one day last year...July 23rd. My beloved babies, who were 2.5 years old, that I moved from Oregon, my 2 beautiful Delaware girls from Cynthia, My blue orp from Cynthia and well it broke my heart. I just do not think I can handle losses like that again. My little "Army" are pets and loved dearly.

Good luck to all of us with this heat wave. Keep in touch and let us know how everyone is doing. I am praying for all of our flocks.

What a coincidence! Here is a pure D'Anver chick with a case of KLF itself. Hmm. Can they get it by close association with a bird rampant with it, say a Coch'Anver in a nearby pen?

J/K! This is Aimee's chick, believe it or not. Look at this horrid infestation of KLF.
lol.png
Aimee just has the barest hint of stubs on her legs and Aubrey has none at all, no others in my D'Anver pen did.

Aimee, Carly and the 5 D'Anver chicks they are raising together, hatched June 27 & 28. The dark backed one is Penny's, who was hatched on the heating pad, but all others are Aimee & Aubrey's kids.

That is a gorgeous hen!!! And the chicks are adorable. If mine come out half that cute I will be ecstatic!

They are super cute, aren't they? One got underneath the coop through a hole in the fencing that we hadn't noticed so it was like Keystone Cops, throwing stuff away from the sides to see where it was, where it might come out, then it got out and ran under the nearby bantam coop so I ran to get Aimee, whose mama clucking drew it out, and we captured the little rugrat, which turned out to be Penny's little delinquent. Whew! We were sure sweating after that escapade! I'll be so glad when they are too large to fit through small openings!

The "KLF" has mutated, I just hatched 13 that have it on their heads.

Oh, dear, dare I ask how that happened??

Adding some pictures of some birds who are completely infested with it, my lavender Coch'Anver pullets, Misty and Opal, who are 16 weeks old tomorrow. (Please ignore the feathers--I cleaned them all out last night and there are more today--Opal and Misty's Cochin mama is molting heavily). These pullets are so much larger than the pure D'Anver, Lucy, who hatched with them. That is Lucy on the left in the first picture. She has beautiful coloring, IMO, better than 18 week old Mina, in the second pic on the right.

We are all surviving here thank goodness...

JJ...here are the male versions of those beautiful little crosses

This is Raven...he is the result of a Mille d'Anver over the lavender cochin hen

This is my beautiful boy Beau...he is the result of a porcelain d'Anver over a lavender cochin hen

They are absolutely the most wonderful little boys...the feathers are much softer on the legs and feet than the d'Uccle feathering.

I am going to keep raising them and see what happens down the line...I have 2 pair of the Lavender and a pair of the black splits plus now a little black split boy named Batman that is adorable.
