Dark spot on duck egg! Pleas help!

Hatching is a wonderful, amazing experience. The beginning of life, and you had a hand in bringing it to fruition.

You do need to be prepared for some losses. It's a true struggle for those little ones to make it into this hard world from the shelter of that perfectly conditioned shell. So if you have a loss, please try to be philosophical about it, learn why it may have happened, and make adjustments next time that are within your control.

Happy ducking! This was my first hatch of Call Ducks. @RavynFallen mentored me on their specific needs and 6 hatched strong and healthy out of 6 shipped eggs.

I couldn't keep those (250 chickens and 50 turkeys leave little room for ducks) but I love ducklings!

Agreed, even though I messed up quite a bit, this was the most amazing thing ever. I actually think I prefer hatching rather than hatchery bought. My first four (they're also the parents of the four in the incubator) I got from a hatchery and couldn't get them to imprint. I love imprinted ducks because you have a stronger bond. About a month ago I got a pair of Rouens from a breeder that lives close to my dads that imprinted on me. It was amazing. We're still close even though they don't follow me around anymore.

Imprinted ducks are the best!!!!!
So happy for you, as I am sure you have learned it is ALL a learning curve, unfortunately some don't make it but we do what we can, and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't :hugs

I have imprinted some turkeys as well. They are my bridge between the human world and the turkey world. They teach the others not to fear us, and to look at us as friends and protectors. They are also our farm ambassadors, and tolerate carrying and petting by both adults and children.

While I don't want ALL of my turkeys to imprint (or I'd never make it through the coop to get my chores done) it is a wonderful feeling to have a friend of another species.

Kinda off topic, but I have two broody's and my non-broody black runner snuck some eggs in my blue runners nest. I had originally snuck some of her eggs in the incubator but non of them were fertile. Midnight (black runner) layed 4 eggs in titanium's (blue runner) nest which is good since I want to keep her green eggs around. But she can't see well, when I used to put them up at night she would always miss the door and when I give them treats she will be in the back looking for where I threw them. I egg had a blood ring, one had a crack and got infected, one was infertile, and one is healthy and developing fine. My question is will this little green egg baby be born (almost) blind like its mom?
