Woohoo! I am soo happy for you! This hatching thing has been harder than I imagined and it is so good to know that sometimes it happens like it is supost to. It also gives me hope I could get one yet

Congrats!
Of the two eggs that I set on 6/12, both have hatched (the second one just this morning). They were from my own hens. One has an umbilicus that looks like it didn't finish sucking in the yolk. (hope that fixes itself)
Of the 16 eggs I bought from a woman in CA, only one hatched. I accidently killed the second one that would have hatched because I thought the egg was already a dud on day 22. It was that "murder" that led me to this thread.
I'm sad that the success rate was so low for the purchased eggs, but not surprised. They were mailed across the country, and are Araucana eggs which have a low success rate.
At least I have one true Araucana, I hope its a hen to go with my one Araucana rooster. All my others are Ameraucana/Araucana mixes.
Anyway, I digress.
Using my harshly earned chick-murder experience, I CAREFULLY pipped the remaining 4 unhatched eggs. I got pretty good at it, too. I was able to break away part of the shell without rupturing the membrane. (Only one exploded. The other 3 had embryos that died at different stages, the worst one was fully formed but did not absorb the yolk.) I knew that if I saw any blood or a pulse inside the membrane, I could put the egg back in the incubator. Too bad I didn't get that chance, or I'd be able to tell you the success rate on the method.

well cracked the 2 remaining eggs, they were dead!

the weird thing is that one of the eggs was right next to the one that hatched! actually the only one that hatched, well at least I have one. am trying again my next hatch is Sat. July 16-17. Candled and definitely saw 2 moving around!! I'm doing a dry hatch of sorts keeping
humidity between 20-40, then 60-75 on lockdown. Will keep updating with next hatch.
Ayda

good luck!
I guess you'd call mine a dry hatch. I had the humidity around 30-40% and then 50-60% at the end. There was no such thing as lockdown for me because I have a homemade incubator.

Thanks! Looked at your BYC homepage love your chicken coop, am going to build a small one this weekend to put my little Silkie in, don't want her/him with the other girls, they are big LOL
Ayda

Thanks Ayda. I got most of the design from another BYC'er. The little trap door on the bottom of mine doesn't work well in reality because the mess on the floor of the coop keeps it from shutting, so I don't use it.
As for the nesting boxes, the hens decided they like cat carriers, the gap between the haybales and the wall in the hayloft, the rabbit hutch, my bag of used twine....

So the singular araucana chick that hatched (out of 14 eggs purchased and shipped to me) died only 4 days old. ALL four of my own hen's eggs (2 in the incubator, 2 under the broody) hatched and are very healthy, knock on wood.

That was an expensive lesson.
You should see these chicks with the mamma hen! they use her like a jungle gym, and love to sit on her back. Too cute!
